Ten years ago today, the racing world lost one of it's greatest sons....Dale Earnhardt. Dale was killed in a wreck on the last lap of the Daytona 500 while running in third, blocking for his teamates running 1-2.

These teamates were his son, Dale Jr., and his good friend, Micheal Waltrip. Michael won his first Daytona 500 that day and the world lost a legend.

This evening, despite the carnage, and with a crazy strategy, Micheal Waltrip pulled off a daring move coming out of the final corner to capture the checkered flag one more time at Daytona on the anniversary.

Probably the most emotional win I've ever seen. Way to go Mikey!!!!!!!

463 races with out a win. A crash into pit road wall that almost kills you. Then you finally win. The Daytona 500. You win in the race your boss Dies in. Mikee all the away. I never was a Dale fan. Still wonder if the seat belt was part of the problem.

Well it's 88 for me......i do wish he was still 8. Was a 3 fan to start with n became an 8 fan when Lil E broke on the scene. Will be an emotional race with it being the 10th annv. Nascar needs Lil E & the 24 car to do good this year to bring some lost ratings back. The rules suck he wins the Pole now he has to start dead last cause of his crash in practise.....because of having to go to his back up car.

Just to add some further perspective for those unfamiliar with the sport.

Micheal's win was the first of his career....in the biggest race there is. What was to be his greatest day became his worst with Dale's death.

A week later, Steve Park (another teamate) captured victory in the very next race. Two weeks later, a young rookie by the name of Kevin Harvick took the wheel of the now re-numbered #3 car and edged out superstar Jeff Gordon for his first victory.

Later in the season, they returned to Daytona. In what was maybe the most emotional moment in the history of sport, Michael pushed Dale Jr to victory in an amazing 1-2 finish that was a storyline too unbelievable for even Hollywood.

Tonight, Mikey get's his first truck series victory ten years to the day of his first win ever on the anniversary of that fateful day. Poignant doesn't even begin to describe it.

If you're not a fan, or even a casual one.....tune in Sunday morning to see what this is all about. There's a bit more to it than just turning left.........

Dang Hendrick cars did not look good in the duals. Especially on the restarts. Hope it picks up tomorrow. Seems to be pairs this year instead of the pack.

All the cars are identical. chassis, suspension. The only real great difference is the body, which after all the smoothing they are nothing like what comes of the factory floor.so much for stock car racing.
All done to reduce the costs.
This has made the cars to even. Time to get back to the roots some what. Still need lots of these changes for safety.

I though Jeff did well on Thursday. You are right he lacked on the restarts, but maybe that had to do with his rookie partner though.
I watched all five races this week. In the three Cup car races 2 cars hooked together were the fastest. Three cars didn't work, four didnt work. I think tomorrow you will see everyone hitched together with one other car. The days of the big trains are gone. Well at least for this year anyways.
