I always thought a Kimber would be a nice 1911 to pick up.

I was very impressed with the Springfield Armory 1911s last time I shot them.

I have a Series 70 Gold Cup. Close to new condition. I enjoy it. The Smith and Wessons are gorgeous . Tough for me to wrap my head around a 1911 that doesn't say Colt on it though.

I have a Wilson Combat Classic Stainless in 45acp that is very accurate, and has never once jammed or failed to feed.My Kimber Rimfire Super in 22lr is quite accurate, but fussy about the ammunition that it likes.

I've got a S&W stainless job with the crimson trace grips. I don't use the beam much at all though. I seem to shoot better with it off. The trigger's really nice, but I admittedly haven't shot a pile of other 1911's to compare it to. Though its way better than many of my other pistols, past or present.

I have a Lama Commander, but my kid has a really nice pre-A! 1911 made in 1919 IIRC.
it is so worn that you have to watch out when you are racking it in case the slide pin falls out!!
This gun has had a zillion rounds through it, even has three tally marks on the trigger guard!
We have taken the slid and barrel, and have put them on a few Norincos , and everything cycled with no issues whatsoever!

He also has two race guns, but they are
(1) 2011's
(2) IPSC open class abominations!
Dunno if you catch the drift, but unless it's a stocker, I ain't interested!!
