Default CWD ... "No Accident"

Have just watched a documentary on the above subject. Granted, this was produced almost 10 yrs ago and originated in the US of A. So am wondering if any have seen this show and if there is any relevance to what we have here in AB.. I googled this for those of you who have a half hour to watch this from their perspective.... any thoughts... ???

Default Good article on CWD

Google this article by Valerius Geist " The Challenge of CWD:
Insidious and Dire" Valerius was warning people many years ago on CWD and it's potential impact to North American ungulate populations. Government's chose to ignore early calls for controls on game farms and that inaction has allowed CWD to develop into the significant issue it is today.

I recall that article by Valerious , just as I recall some of the non-action responses at that time. As far as I can see ,the non action was due, primarily to some Gov't officials, mosty in the Agricultural Dept, that were very active in establishing partnerships in Game Farms. As it turned out, that was'nt just a rumor.
I always was a big fan of Mr. Geist. You could never be too far off with anything he said.

You mean things like the brother of the MLA in an area having elk and wild boar on his property a year prior to the legislation allowing it?

There was definitely some political insider influence at play, for allowing game farms. The alternate income stream angle for farmers was played to the hilt.

Watched the film, and it is sad to see how some people view wildlife as a means to get rich. The scary part of CWD is that there is no cure for it. So once the deer becomes infected it is a death sentence for the animal. And it has not happened yet, but if CWD mutates so that it can infect humans, what a nightmare that would be.
