Big Lake behind St.Albert can be accesed behind the soccer fields off of reil drive. It is too late in the season to fish due to weeds and low water levels.
Try the sturgeon river next to the sandpiper golf course. This heavy rain might have brought up the water level. Fun fishing for snot rockets in shallow water. I have caught pike, goldeye, walleye but no burbot.
Even in the best time of times Big lake is only a metre or so deep in most locations. Like Paul said fishing the sturgeon right off big lake can produce tons of hammer handles, but it's so choked with weeds that even top water is pointless. Best times are right when the season opens in April.

I don't think you can acess it there anymore since they put the extension on th Anthony Henday. I beleive it is cut off from acessing it from reil drive.
