I don't as the rimfire ammo I shoot does not copper foul in the 22, in the 17 I don't use it either but you could. I use a bore snake a couple swipes first and then I use a nylon brush with Butch's Bore Shine and then patches.

I was thinking of trying it with the 17 hmr... wonder how long I should let the foam sit in the barrel

One thing with wipe out is that it never hurts to try it. Instead of just giving a no for an answer, maybe you guys could say what you use and what your process is.

Hoppes #9 solvent on a patch through the bore and run copper brush a few times and then clean patches until they come out clean.

I use the same basic approach for all of my barrel cleaning, that being a one piece coated rod, a bore guide, and a suitable bore solvent. When jacketed bullets are used, I use a good copper solvent. I use brushes only when required, and that is seldom. I can't see why Wipeout wouldn't work fine on a rimfire, I just prefer to use other cleaning methods.

I think they're answers were satisfying.

I was told with the 17hmr.. to clean it once the accuracy falls off and groups open up...same as the 22lr. I went shooting this morning and noticed the groups opening up ... its got 300 rounds on it and had a handful of cleanings. Never tried wipe out in it.

I picked up "wipe-out" and the "accellerator" at a gunshow last fall. After hunting season, i did the usual cleaning. So, this past month found the time to give all my rifle calibres and cleaning with it.
Wow ! it was amazing to see how much more cleaning was done with this wipe out technique. I let mine soak overnight, never used a brush, just patches. Some of the calibres had to be done twice, but the patches came out spotless when the cleaning was complete.
Calgary gunshow should find me buying some more and perhaps the kind for shotguns too.

It ain't gonna hurt the rifles!

I thought the gun was clean before. I ran it in what i thought was a clean gun. Dirty patch. Took it out this morning and it appears my group size has tightened up. wtf. Fired 5 more 5 round groups... same same. Found my new 17hmr gun cleaner. lol Just used the skinny straw in the chamber and plugged it off with a q-tip while I applied it into the barrel. The stuff works.

Anyone know where I can pick this up in Edmonton? Looked around a bit but couldn't find it. I'm also looking for a .20 caliber Dewey cleaning rod and jag but I haven't been able to find one either. Most places don't have that small or don't know when they'll have more in.

P&D carried it not long ago, as I picked up a few cans less then a year ago.

I think the copper clad .17's need a copper solvent, but for standard .22 pretty much just stick to oil. Got into that habit after I bought an Anschutz which recommended bore cleaning with oil only. I figured after a hundred years in the business with arguably the best rimfire shooters in the world, Anschutz knows best.

i am cheap with my wipout because i find it hard to get. wipout doesnt contain a slovent that works on lead but it says it works on tin or something in the lead. i dont use it i use ordinary bore solvent and a bronze brush unlike copper fouling in a centerfire this works very well. im not going to use wipout if i dont need it.

Yes.

When dry patching no longer restores accuracy, I use wipeout.

Then get crabby for the next 200 rounds as the barrell fouls in again

I was using wipe out in my cz let it soak for an hour or two if it was a heavy field . After I would send a couple dry patches followed by 1 with cr 10 and a nylon brush if I shot over the 200 mark always found more copper with cr10 . I learnt my lesson on bore snakes had one unravell in the chamber and got stuck all my snakes are now gone . Also dont forget about the chamber after about 500 rounds or so I give her a good scrub with a 9mm pistol brush gun smith showed me this after I had some signs off pressure I was sceptical but my groups tightend up and no more signs of pressure
