Default 102/118 Trophy Antelope tips

Good day,

Drawn for my first rifle trophy antelope in 102/118 this year and am looking for some tips. Areas to check out, where to stay, things I may overlook in preparation, etc. I’ve heard the public grazing reserves are a good place to start but I’ve downloaded the ownership maps on iHunter as well for the private leases as well. Any and all info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Good optics are a must. Being able to shoot long distances with accuracy is also key. Those zones are big wide open spaces try and concentrate on one area, you can spend a lot time drive around. And as mentioned fuel can be a problem.

Be Careful picking up strangers off the highway....

Met a young woman from Germany as she was walking up 41.
I've got nothing else I can share about that.

I’m not sure how dry it is down there now but last year it was dry and then they had rain later in the year. We found hunting private land with regrowth wheat or canola or anything that was green was where we were finding them. Drive less walk more. When your down that way go to foremost and see the schnitzel king. Best I’ve ever had. Take a tripod or very good shooting sticks.

Medicine Hat just got 1.5 to 2 inches of rain and Cypress County lifted the fire ban which should help with access.

Good optics, gas, range finder. There is a gas station in Elkwater in Cypress Hills, open 10am to 7pm daily

Milk River has more services than Foremost.

I stay at the Sandstone Motel 1-403-647-2211. It is basic accomodation, nothing fancy. In house restaurant is not bad. There are other restaurants like Subway.

Milk River is about 50 minutes from the west side of 102. The road is paved most of the way.

It has a been a dry year. Check dugouts and the river. If it is really windy, check the river valley.

Use good binoculars and spotting scopes.

If you see cattle, you will often see antelope nearby. (the cow has replaced the bison in regenerating the forbs the anteloe relies on.)

Get permission. It will likely be foot access only.
