#1 arrow is the arrow that has perfect flight. Groups exactly the same with broadheads and field points and this is the arrow i plan on using to put through an animal. Some guys number them according to age of the shaft. Some guys put a finishing shot arrow in their quiver if they ever have to put another shot into a wounded animal.

This is actually good advice for those starting out. I think arrows are pretty consistent nowadays, I've had exactly one arrow go wonky and corkscrew. That one ended up being a chicken arrow.
I don't number my arrows, but I do mark any that take a hit and I don't use those on an animal. Wouldn't remember what number, but if I pick up an arrow with a mark I know what it means.
