You could try Lillian lake, trails open til april 1. Fish in the 8-15" range. I have never hiked it in the winter but it is probably 1 1/2 - 2 times longer hike now. It is a good 1.5 hrs for me in the summer. I may try it next friday.

You can't get to Elbow..the road is closed.

Galatea..forget it there is five feet of snow to go through.
Lillian would be an adventure...

You can still hike to elbow , isn't that far from where the road is closed ...it's not a hard hike either going down the highway..

Lillian would be fun tho.. fortress lake maybe ??

Has the trail to Lillian reopened yet? It was closed due to the flooding.

I guess I assumed that an alpine hiker this time of year would have concidered the potential for snow... My bad.

THX for your suggestions. I hiked up Galatea in the Fall and went to Guinn pass but the river valley is a mess with lots of dead fall, not suitable for skis to allow an early enough approach for ice fishing.

If someone makes it to elbow lake be really careful there are parts of the lake that barely freezes just enughf for snow to stay on top.
