Hunting for a release
Hello all. I am new to bows/bow hunting and I just got my own bow (2010 Mathews Z7 with spot Hogg real deal and a QAD rest) I am looking for a good quality release. I want a wrist strap caliper style release for around 50-70$. Needs to be adjustable for length.
What do you experienced guys/gals use?
Much appreciated

My vote is for Scott little bitty goose (with buckle and nylon strap), however I use the Scott wildcat which I like more, but it isn't produced anymore. Buckle is quieter than Velcro for hunting, nylon strap can be tucked away when using hand for other things and can be infinitely adjusted. Try some to find which feels best, which has a "trigger" that you like, etc.

We use Scott releases also. I like the Little Goose myself but am really impressed with the service from Scott. Had spring break after many, many shots and they told me to send release to them. They replaced spring free of charge and sent it back no charge shipping. Ordered a leather buckle strap for it at the same time and they put it on and sent it back with new strap free of charge also. Good company to deal with.
Go try a few of them out. They're all a little different. My spouse likes the Scott Wolf.

So are there any pros/cons to single caliper, double caliper or the string loop versions?
Thanks

Yes, go to the Scott website they have a chart describing all of them.

Thanks Lefty. That helped a bunch. I'm hopefully going to try a few but I think I want to go with a single caliper or dual caliper. I also am definitivly going to go with a buckle strap.

I use a Scott Wildcat with a buckle, it's a single caliper. I use it for target, 3D, and hunting with all 3 of my bows. One bad thing about buckles is they do stretch over time, the Velcro is easier to use if you wear gloves.
It's a preference thing....head to a pro shop and ask to try a few different ones. I know Jimbows will let you try some out.

I have been using the scott silverhorn lately and am liking it.
I also had a scott wolf which I enjoy too.
I prefer a buckle strap as it is consitant.

I have been using Fletcher releases since the early 80's..specifically the fletchunter...single caliper...self loading ...adjustable trigger..flawless and tuff...wash em in a mud puddle every year weather they need it or not and good to go....lol
Lifetime warrenty...had 4 in 30 years ...lost one... still have and shooting others...just updated a couple that improved wrist and adjustablility...
tested on hooter shooter they out preformed releases at twice three times the cost...Approx $99.00 with solid lifetime warrenty...of the hundreds or maybe into the thousand we have sold...not a single warrenty issue..that says a lot...
Very sutible for hunting, 3D and even target

Thanks folks. I'm heading to the local bow shop (lane archery) tomorrow to pick up my bow. I'll look at their releases and see if they will let me try any of them.

I practise more than the average archer and my current loop is going on 13 months. Had it checked at Jim-Bow's and still good to go. I use a "little goose" so maybe the smaller head makes a difference? Hubby has a "Wolf" and hasn't had any d-loop problems. He's been using the same release for over eight years now, 3-D, target and hunting.

I've been using the Silverhorn with a buckle too and like it. Another nice thing about a buckle is it's much quieter than Velcro.

of all the Fletchunters we had we never had an issue with loops with the exception of one that had a burr on the caliper, ...replaced it with a new one and no issues after...Fletcher replaced the one with a burr no questions and replied it must have been damaged somewhere done the line...
I would send that one back if you still have it...
Also could be several factors...loop material...set up etc...
My loop is over a year old on my main bow and looks new

Thanks a bunch folks. I ended up buying a scott archery samurai. They didn't have any buckle straps in stock so I went with Velcro which is fine with me.

Buckle strap. Give Scott a call. They'll probably send you one. At cost, if you have to pay for it at all.

I might, using Velcro doesn't bother me much.

I am the same perfer Velcro over buckle ...much faster...
some say velcro is way too noisy...I have my release on when I leave Camp or vehicle and dont take it off until return...once shoot in it is stealth quite...
If velcro strap makes noise on draw something is not right...EX.. too loose...worn...etc

Carter Releases
Probably the best I have ever shot! Guaranteed quality and very well made. Release is smooth and I have 3 different ones. Mine are all buckles for consistent set ups.
Good luck

I found releases are like bows. Gotta try as many as you can. You'll know when it's the right one. I was fortunate, that one that picked me was the TruBall Stinger. One of the least expensive releases there is. Something about the swept trigger just works best for me.

Practise with a back tension release, hunt with a "trigger" release. A back tension or pull through release will greatly increase your accuracy.
