Get a havalon/scalpel and skin it yourself. Only about a 20 min job even if you're not experienced. Then pick up a board to stretch it on. For tanning, don't bring it to Halford. They royally screwed up the wolf my buddy brought them a couple years ago. That is your cheapest option.

western fur tans coyotes for about 110 bucks, but they charge extra for fleshing. any tannery is going to be expensive for a green hide. I am not even sure if they will take a whole frozen coyote. best to call around, there are only a few tanneries in the city

What would they do at the colonies? I assume they don't tan them.

Traditionally they would be brain tanned. You can find instructions online and can substitute with eggs or mayonnaise, however this method requires you smoke the hide afterwards and that takes a bit of setting up. Each animal has enough brain to tan its own hide. I've never tanned anything(Yet) but I've done a lot of looking into the subject. Through my apprenticeship I'd be getting mine done in formic.

Had one done by Edmonton fur tanners (12403 67 Street) back in 2010 for $85. I think they are up to $100 or so now. I did skin it not sure if they take whole dogs.

I wouldn't suggest skinning it yourself if you want a wall hanger. Skinning the face/ears can be tricky. There's a fella in Westlock that does custom skinning......J.R.Trapping. His name is John and he's a trapping instructor. If you call the Alberta Trappers Association in Weslock they should have his number. Once he puts the pelts up you can take them to Western Tannery in Edmonton.

Another option is just to buy them, Halfords sells tanned furs on their website.

Out of curiosity. Has anyone made anything out of these furs. Like boots or mitts? How many furs would you need to make a pair of boots. Coyote or fox?

Yup, you can make lots of those things from furs. It took 2 coyotes to make my mitts. Heres a link to the trapping forum where the same question was asked. There are some photos and ideas.

Just so you know.....He can't legally sell you raw fur unless you have a fur buyers licence. If they are tanned he can sell them to you legally though. Just sayin.....
