That is good to hear. I have a Tikka in 9.3x62 and a 1960's Antonio Zoli over under double with a 1.5-6x42 Swarovski in 9.3x74. Great caliber, you can eat right up to the hole!

.22lr
.17 HMR
.308 Win
I would have thought that there would be more .223's as a popular calibre.
Just wondering why.

338 wm and 3006
Gents, I am well into my 60's now. A truck load of guns have passed through my hands, from 22's to 458's. And now, I am down to two old-timer cartridges: 338wm and 3006. Both have similar trajectories, so I don't have to think much about the bullet drop out to 400 yards.
Since I don't hunt beyond 300 yards, one or the other will mark "paid in full" on anything walking in North America. For 99% of the game, I wouldn't feel undergunned or overgunned (ridiculous idea, anyway) with either.
Not saying they're better than anyone else's choise, but I don't have any need to look for another.

Agree completely, same sermon I've been preaching for years. I would much rather be "overgunned" (African hunters don't think twice about shooting everything, including duiker sized animals with their "big guns", 375's and such). Sure the 338 has a little more recoil than some feel comfortable with, but I've watched lots of guys shooting 30-06 type guns and not enjoy the recoil much. Recoil is subjective. You can live with it or honestly hate it. With proper shooting habits and a good fitting gun it. Is not going to hurt you. Still some can't, or won't, tolerate it and they should be honest with themselves and shoot something smaller. With today's bullet choices it is hard to go wrong. Of course witth small game/varmint hunting there are better choices.

My fave is the .44 Magnum in a rifle. I also like the .444 for more serious fun. And of course, the .22 rimfire.

338 Win Mag, 308 Win, 375 H&H, and the 7x57 are my go to Calibers...338 Win been my most favorite. I own and shoot a 3 or 4 others at the moment and have played quite a bit with lots of others over the years...but the 4 I listed I just keep finding in my hands, time and again when I am actually hunting.
