Bolt stiff to close
Well i bought a CZ 455 a while ago and the bolt is quite stiff to close.
cycles fine all the way forward and aft.
the lift on the handle and the final drop of it is what worries me. i hear metal on metal "grinding" on the close as the handle rotates down.
not sure what it is.
anybody ?

Have you cleaned the lugs where the bolt locks up?

How's it close empty vs. a round up the spout?
Reloads or factory?
How's it behave with a different brand of ammo?

Just got the heads up through a judicious pm from another member that this is a rim fire rifle.
How does it close empty vs live round?
Have you tried more than one brand of ammo?
You weren't trying to chamber CCI Stinger's were you?

Stingers
Just to follow up on Dick's comments about the CCI Stingers. I have a beautiful Sako P94 .22 and it has the same issue with the stingers. I tried a couple but had a hard time closing the bolt, loves everything but.

this is a 17.hmr. loads ammo fine. still stiff on close.
its stiff to close on a open chamber as well, the same as live ammo. right where the bolt rotates down is where the sound is coming from. not from the bolt itself if that makes sense. (reading it it doesn't)
and yah lefty i cleaned the whole shebang. really looking at the lugs. still about the same
perhaps it needs to be "greased" a bit.
or worked in.
hmmm

Gary can you see any metal galling on the bolt lugs or other lockup surfaces?

EDIT: not on lugs or lock up! just on bolt body
it is very very VERY slight, but it looks linear (along the bolt from moving forward and back, not rotating down)
which is not what I'm hearing i don't think. i only feel resistance on the up and down.
this makes sense in my head but when i read it, it really doesn't make sense
thanks for the help so far guys!
also, if im holding the bolt out of the rifle, the bolt knob has some slight play. as in i can move the bolt body, and the knob/collar will rotate a quarter inch or so. is this normal?
sorry if my terminology is WAY off.

The rear screw on the trigger guard could be turned in to much.
If it’s driven in past the receiver it could be what causing the resistance?

Your terminology is what it is, but your spelling is awesome.
Wondering if maybe there might be a long scope base screw just grazing the bolt body...

sorry, typing on a phone.
There is no base, there is a dovetail milled into the receiver.

backed the screw out. still stiff to close.
Its accurate as heck, loads and ejects fine. perhaps that lone lug needs to be lapped in a bit to smooth it out.

I was at wholesale a few months ago and they had a 452 or 453 American in a left hand. Wanted to buy it bad but really didn't like the bolt. Ended up buying a couple savages instead. I know the savages are tough to compare to the cz's but the bolts sure seam better for a couple hundred bucks less.

Just cause i was cluttering up the thread.
all that was private is if the magazine was catching or not. and if it was metal or poly.

i too would like to know what a problem with a cz 452 might be after my curiosity is up although i dont own one. if somebody tells a roomful of people a joke then whispers the punchline to to a couple of their friends the other people might think they are wasting their time.

My bad guys. Was not ment to come across as rude in my last response.
We were having a conversation. Did not seem like it was worth going to the top of the feed every 30 seconds. I imagine that is why he pm'd me.
anyhow
thanks all for all the help!
time to tinker tonight
