I gave them my name and # and they were going to phone me back with p&d. About an hour ago they phoned and said it would be about 5 days delivery from Ontario and it was $573.00 a drum. I just about **** my pants. I said thanks but no thanks.
I think I am going to just bite the bullet, pay the shipping and get it from Sinclaires.

Why not get the heaviest sand you can from get from a local sandblasting outfit and try it for a while ... maybe you would be quite happy with it ..and when you get to the point where you feel you can up your game to the next level...make the order.

sand is reasonably functional
Zircon is nice but like 260rem advises not essential.
I don't compete in benchrest so clean coarse sand in Protektor rests works good enough for me. With a heavy rifle I've a steady-and-heavy enough platform to shoot under 3/4" at 100yds. I do have to pay attention to my bags and add a bit as the sand packs down over time.
Do I yearn for Zircon? Not at all even though my leather bags would perform better with it. But the amount of better does no matter for the games I play.

Ok this morning I ordered a 15lb bag of heavy zircon sand from Sinclaires. $19.95 for the sand, $62.00 for the shipping. Not cheap but a lot cheaper than what I was quoted in Edmonton. Groups should get better now, if not at least I'll know who to blame.

I think my new edge wood bag should be here by this weekend and the sand by the following weekend. Looking forward to seeing what kind of groups I can get at 100 & 400 yards out of my 22-250, 243 and my 300 win mag.
