Default WR Leadership Follow Through

That WR needs to change some policies to have any chance for electoral success in the future, changes must be made. On the "leadership" side of the equation, Ms. Smith has learned that the blind support of certain positions has real consequences. Her long term success may be framed in how she handles the next "bozo eruption". Another interesting line to follow will be to see if she follows though on the idea of MLA "recall" ...time to walk the walk.

I feel the "I have an advantage because I'm white" comment was completely blown out of proportion and I have some sympathy for Mr. Leech, but I am pleased that WR will review its position on climate change.

Only in North America is fighting climate change framed as a right wing/left wing issue and to be blunt if the WR can't shed that fringe position it will be in the same position next time.

Not a popular position on this board perhaps - but I'd vote for a fiscally conservative option that believes in scientific evidence of human caused climate change. If WR can't address that one, they may as well add their concerns around the theories of evolution and gravity to their platform next time, as it sends the same message to Alberta voters.

She has got some good ideas and principles, but as my wife said, if she had some spine, she would've canned those two clowns on the spot, and carried on, she showed zero Leadership skills there.. and get some better support staff....

I think she stood by her libertarian belief that the government does not regulate morality and that running for government doesn't mean you have to hide yours.

Both of those persons in question and their comments are being misrepresented. Done is done now though.

totally agree, but the WR missed how the PC hit team was going to focus on this, sometimes you have to sacrifice a few for all..

I too think that last one got her, I was talking with one young fella and he asked how I could take someone with her thoughts on it seriously. Science proven or not, I think the younger generation has been indoctrinated with it.

I am sure Dani's staff are going over every item very closely.

Now that Allison has promised us with everything under the sun, let's start holding her to her statements.

And how is Allison going to pay for all the goodies for her Christmas in April?

I await to see the rodeo after the shine wears off of her.

I agree too. Danielle came across weak and almost unconcerned with those two comments.

Alison I thot handled the no meet thing early in the election with some authority.

Lessons will be learnt and applied next time around

Never happen Hal, science can't agree on anything let alone something that has so much money attached to it.

Default The scientific method does not work that way Hal

Its pretty democratic.

Science has always followed ' the truth is this because most of us agree the data is reliable as we understand it'.

There is still a world is flat society.

Does this mean the 'globo theory is unproven'?

She made a big mistake with the 'science is unproven' statement.

Not a democratically smart statement.

I do like her. I think she'd be a great leader. I really really think she needs to find some 'star power' candidates.

Weed your party. The lunatic fringe is a dead end.
Manning learned this. Harper may need to be reminded of this.

Is there really still a flat earth society? .... WOW, there really is.

AGW is unproven though and Danni was telling the truth when she said the science is nowhere close to being conclusive...but she should have kept it to herself...the electorate for the most part is incapable/unwilling of understanding much beyond media propaganda.

The global warming issue should be recognized the same way any science is.

If she had stepped up and told the pastor that those were not the values of the WRP and told the gentleman in Calgary that his racist remarks were not the values of the WRP and let the pair of them go. She would have gained a lot more votes from those who did not like the broom and carpet method.

I hope that she learned a valuble lesson and can use it later in her political career.

There are a great many scientists who do not ascribe to global climate change. It is a theory, and as such until it is proven it remains that. There is plenty enough evidence to show that much of the research results for the global warming science was tailored to suit the agendas of those who wanted to push global warming.

Ok guys, we didn't win, lay off a bit lol. Nothing like being a sore winner.

As far as it goes, we will see how it all works out in wash. I didn't want redford to win but she did. I will give her the benefit of the doubt. Let's see how it all pans out and in 4 years let's fire up the debate again. Here's to another 4 years in the best province in Canada.

Btw, I'm not from Alberta, I'm from liberal loving Newfoundland.

That is very true, anyone 30 and under will think you're born in the 20's or been hiding in a cave for the last 30 years if you have no acknoledgement that humans are causing atleast some of whats going wrong with our weather.

That white advantage comment might not sound out of line with some ones who's white but go for a walk in a mall in Canada, look at your crew at work. It doesn't matter what context he said it in, a news clip slagging the guy isn't going to include the whole conversation. There are alot of people who aren't white in Canada and they all have white friends who aren't cool with bigotry

private health care??? Yo! Dani, this ain't the USA this friggin' cold country you just campaigned in is called Canada and if you ask many canadians whats good about our country it's universal goverment healthcare, beer, and one great back yard.

There's is a country and an entire planet beyond the alberta borders, lots of people have moved from these other places to alberta, gotta get a grip with canadian views as a whole and more worldly views

So the "Racist" remarks the guy made were saying he had an advantage because he is white? Really, that is considered racist?

Your suggestion would certainly have been the politically correct and politically expedient move. However, as was noted before, the masses were manipuliated by the misrepresentation of both statements.
Throwing them under the bus for someone else misrepresenting what they said is not good leadership or of commendable character.
I would rather seen her go on the attack against the misrepresentation instead of trying to brush the issue under a rug. That is tricky too though.

With the way the media of today acts, this is the battle a conservative politican faces; cave in the the politically correct line of thinking for the sake of much needed (at least in this case) votes, or make a principled stand?

What exactly were the media mirepresntations with regards to Leech's statements and the fellow who talked of gays burning in fire or something similar. Direct quotes were used, were they not? With regard to the pastor, did he actually say "Some people say gays will burn in a lake of fire, but I'm not one who says that" and the media only took the 4th through 10th words?

The problem with the quote that was taken from the pastor was that he made that statement in his role as a pastor, not in his role as a candidate. There is a huge difference.

As a pastor he was well within his rights to say what he said, and he made no such statments as a candidate (as far as I'm aware).

I may be totally burned for this, but I do think that the comment shows an ugly side of the world where he is actually right.

Being white in Canada makes your life easier in almost every aspect. People just don't like hearing the truth.

I do find it funny that he was running in a riding with two brown guys and another guy named Al Brown though.

ok, lets examine your statement. In which role was he expressing his true feelings, and in which role was he lying?

How can a person say "This is what I believe" and then turn around and say "Oh, I don't believe that. I have my candidate hat on now". Sheesh... You get a TRUER picture of what a person actually believes when they don't have their "candidate hat" on.

He never said that he did not believe it as a candidate. It's jsut that he did not make the comment as a candidate. He can believe whatever he wants to believe. That is his right. I can guarantee you that there are other candidates or now MLAs that share many of the same views as him, and that is their right as well.

Just about any candidate in any election will have views that others find disagreeable.
