Default Star Lake

Any news on Star Lake? Has anyone had any success, or did it winterkill?

I don't think that this lake winter kills, unless something out of ordinary happened this winter. Have not been there yet this winter.

I'm pretty sure it said in Barry Mitchell's Alberta Fishing Guide that it might winterkill, but I guess he doesn't know everything!

my guess is that it hasn't in the 7 years i've fished it - there's some nice fish in there... they're pretty wary though
cheers

Wink

Star does winterkill as I have seen it first hand but it does not winterkill every year. The last time it winterkilled that I know of for certain was about 4 seasons ago. There used to be perch in Star but I think the last winterkill was pretty severe and most likely wiped everything out. Barry Mitchell is bang on in this case.

With the pothole lakes around Edmonton the stocked trout grow pretty quickly in the warm nutrient rich waters so in a few years time trout can easily grow upwards of 20".

So I went out to Star this morning and managed to catch one 16" trout, on an olive woolly bugger. It was my first trout of the season, and also my first fish in my new float tube. It was a pretty nice birthday present...
