Default DO YOU TAKE YOUR CHILDREN/G. Children HUNTING???

I'm just curious as to how many of you get your children or grandchildren out hunting for big or small game. I ask because I don't usually see it. I do understand that it usually takes 2 parents presence to accomplish such a feet!
I hunted until 9 months pregnant with 4th child, so they were all exposed before they were born. My hubby has also been stopped by F&W several times with 4 kids in the car, to be praised for his efforts on getting them out & exposed.
Sitting in a tree stand has been do able but we have certainly revised the hunt to include them!

I'm taking my 5 yr old girl next week for whitetail. She's more excited about it than me.

I didn't realize how heart warming the AWESOME DAD stories would be!!! Especially with the daughters. Daughter 13 soon & wants to hunt next year now. I do feel it is such a gift to them!!!

Always!! I just hunt differently. We have 3 4yrs-9. We have taken bears and deer. The 9yr old came to bear camp for the first time this year, many day trips and will be missing school to be my grunt for moose at wainright. Lots of weiner roasts on pipelines. To us it is the hikight of the year

You bet they come along. I just change the program to include them. My 6 year old does well sitting quietly in ambush situations for up to 3 hours but the 4 year old finds that too long. I often go get them after a bow kill to help me "find" the animal.
They love scouting and the trail cams get the kids real excited.

Absolutely do! and always will! I am a 3 year old dad and am having fun with things. May not get the opportunities at game the way i did when i hunted solo, but thats very minor. My boy has learned a lot so far, and so have I.

My son started last fall after he could walk some distance we would go looking for grouse. This yr we have upgraded to WT/Elk hunting. He was a good luck charm one morning we were just out driving around looking for chickens. Didnt get the elk but he was pretty pumped. We went WT hunting last weekend and it was like -15 we walked in to check our trailer and then continued on to the back of the 1/4 he was trooper, just gotta get him to understand "quite buddy"

I love this, keep the stories coming! My kids have become great callers ducks, geese, deer, elk.
When my 1st boy was in grade 2 his class went to leighton centre S. of Calgary. The poor man volunteering was telling them the stuffed head on the wall was that of a deer. NOT! My son wouldn't let it go, continuing to correct him until he looked it up. My son was right! LOL.

Default Kids and grandkids

I take any of the kids hunting that want to go. It's good to show them the ropes when they are younger IMHO. My wife is my hunting partner so there is always someone to stay in the vehicle if the shooter has to go stalking. They love it.

I take my kids hunting when I can but the young ones stay home when the "serious" hunting starts! They just can't stay quiet! My 15 year old son comes along all the time and he takes his friend with. The kids come along trapping all the time!!

I felt bad when I filled my tag the next week and they were not there.

Default first year

It is definately alot more challenging hunting with my little guy but he seems to be my good luck charm. I cant wait till he is old enough to do some calling and help me with the grunt work.

My daughter started going when she was 7 and really enjoys it. Gave me hell for leaving her home today! She's coming with me and her grandpa in the morning, which means my 5 year old little guy will be ****ed off tomorrow night. Lol!

Been taking my girlfriends 9yr old son out. He thinks everything happens just like on t.v. Go out make a few calls and within 1/2 hour you see many animals and shoot the biggest one. First few times he was dissapointed to say the least, but now he really enjoys it. It's all about makin it fun and enjoyable for them more than actual hunting.

I know of one family "psycologist" in Edmonton that would tell us all we are wrong to take children hunting.
I told her what I thought of her position.
It didn't work out well for us, but in the end I know taking my children out hunting will benefit them. It was ok for me as a child and for my cousins and friens and so many other ppl.
How can it be wrong now? according to one "professional" in the city?

Yes, I have been taking junior since he was 1, just like my dad did with me.
Sometimes I will grab the kids an ice cream and we will just go for a drive with no intent to shoot, just to look for deer and moose.
My 5 yr old daughter gets pretty irate if she can't look through the binos.

Congrats on your hunt momof4,
Been there yrs back, my kids are now 15 - 24, they were hunting with me from an early age 'til now.
They walked with me, posted, sat still and in stands, but never did they push bush, just not something I would do with them.

When I go my son goes. He's my hunting partner and has been since he could walk. Wouldn't have it any other way. Enjoy them when we can. They grow up a way too fast.

Default kids & birds...

This was the first year for me to take the 2 1/2 year old out for some real hunting action. He has been invloved with dog training for the past 2 summers. He blows his duck calls and sets up decoys like a pro. Will have him fully trained by the time he is legal to shoot.

My hunting partner also brought along his 7 year old who had a blast. She was ready to go hunting the next day!!

The kids got out for 3 hunts this fall. All afternoon/evening hunts. More time spent setting up and stuff than actual hunting.

To top it off, the kids ate popcorn and watched us pick up decoys at the end of the day.....

I have taken all 3 of my kids out from the time they were born and 2 out of the three are still at it. I don't even enjoy going out any more unless I can take at least one of them with me.

I didn't huntign with my son until he was 21 years old - he had no interest in it.
He knew how to read a river and run a jet boat at a very early
age however....
