If you were getting a job done and two guys were equally qualified, wouldn't you pick the guy at $90 vs $120 ????
Possibly but in my case I do not need to- for several reasons!
It would also depend on WHO it was , just because a person is qualified does not necessarily mean they are worth hiring .
Tickets aside , some tradesmen are simply better than others , trade designation aside

Point taken. Let's hope it's the quality tradesmen that get the work and last.

I think the scenario would dictate who I use. If I need the frame for my lawnmower bag repaired I use the guy on Kijiji for $60. If I need a broken stud extracted from an $8000 cylinder head I probably use the guy that is $140 and has an impeccable reputation. Everything else considered they both would have the same tickets.

Yup I would rather spend more and wait for a bit for a quality Job done on time than save $200 , then have something break on me because of complacent and incompetent workmanship.

What happens when there are not that many studs to remove from those $8K cylinder head??? Would that welder with an impeccable reputation take on those little jobs?? If he did would he drop his price for those??
There does seem to be a little less work going on in the last few years.

There might be less work. Its the fly-by-night outfits that suffer however. A guy that applies himself and does good work tends to attract a reputation. These individuals don't tend to ever be out of work. The guys that burned bridges or just have a much lower overhead can work for less. The guys that have worked hard to build their name tend to stay busy. In many industries or trades it really is a small world. Word can travel fast.
