Seems insane!

Was talking to my neighbor and found out that over the course of 27 years of him living in our neighborhood, he has hunted some cool animals I would never have thought even ventured over here. So I live by winterburn and he showed me elk, cougar, black bear, moose, mule deer, whitetail and huge wolves. I have heard of cougar venturing into St. Albert but had no idea they actually got this close to Edmonton. AND ELK!? Only wish I could hunt here like he did before the houses came up and the lake turned to a provincial park...

Anyone else see or hear of animals near them they would never expect?

Well I never expected it right beside two industrial areas. I've lived here 15 years and never seen an elk or cougar. Or a black bear. Nothing on my trail cams either.

Couple years back they Calgary Police had to put down a cougar that was close to the hospital under construction.
Here in BC we have had Black Bears in Vancouver , Grizzlies in Squamish and Cougars at the Empress Hotel in Victoria.
So, never say never.

About 15 years ago I was in Dante’s Bistro on the West end of Edmonton and it was just loaded with cougars. seriously every year some cougar are spotted around Onoway and Calahoo. I can’t see why there wouldn’t be cougar in Edmonton. The deer follow the river valley and the cats follow the deer.

The hospital wasn't even under construction it was open and operating at the time. You should be able to google it under the south health campus.

I've lived in the West Edmonton (Jasper Place) /Winterburn area just about all my life .. since 1939, and have seen about a dozen Elk and B Bear but not a Cougar or Wolf anywhere near there. The odd Moose or other critter may have wandered through Edmonton in proximity to the river valley but Whitetails were unheard around there until the mid '50's. However, Rabbits were everywhere and there were tons of Mule Deer . I used to hunt them just east of Spruce Grove and along the Sturgeon River near Calahoo .. same with Pheasants, Sharptails and Huns. Numerous Lynx in what is now mostly the City of St Albert. Lots of Moose, a few Elk and a few Wolves could be found in the area between Wabamun Lk and Wildwood. As I recall, all the Elk, Bear and Cougar in the immediate Edmonton area at that time were at AL Oemings Game Farm, located south on 142 street down by the river.
Recently, there was a Cougar hanging around the overpass near the Hwy 16 / Hwy 44 junction. Things are different now. The Wild critters don't have the room they had at one time, when they shyed away from any developed areas. Now, it seems they are attracted to Urban development.
Interesting how things change over time..
