Default Reloading 300 win mag

Hey everyone,

I have been reloading for my 300 win mag and the first powder I tried was IMR 7828 with 200 grain eldx.. well let's just say my tikka wasn't the biggest fan. I have bought 200 grain accubonds and deciding between H1000 and H4831 SC

Anyone have experience with either of these 2 powders.

I've only used H1000 in my 300 Win with 208 ELD-M. its been an awesome combo in my rifle. Sub-MOA groups. Ive got a 6.5CM now so its been a little while since ive shot the 300wm more then a couple rounds.

I use 67.0grs of H4831SC for my 300wm. I also shoot the 200gr ELD-X. My rifle is a Tikka Varmint in 300wm. I find the ELD-X bullets the best since you can't seat the bullets out of the case too far.

Not only shouldnt you trust posted load data from anything other than a reloading web site, but people should know better than to post it. You catch a bolt in the eye then say it was posted on AO and enjoy the money, its just harder to count with only one eye

I disagree. If I post something on the internet saying that this is what works for me, then it works for me. What other people do is their business. I didn't tell anyone to do anything. Not to mention, what I use is well within the reloading guidelines set out by Hornady for that bullet, so that's on them.

I would; however, agree with you in that you shouldn't trust load data you get off a forum. You can certainly use it as a guideline or starting point, but you still have to do your due diligence and actually look into some more legitimate sources before you start loading.

Thats just it, you say it works for you. Who are you, a nice normal outdoorsman trying to help out another outdoorsman, or a whack job anti trying to get someone to blindly follow some data to blow up another evil rifle toter, if you get my drift. The world is full of strange people. Plus a site that allows data, because it is heavily moderated, is putting itself at risk if someone gets hurt because it was left up for someone to use.

I've used IMR 4350in various 300 Win Mags for years. No issues and a very versatile powder for other rounds as well.

Exactly . Too bad we cant offer help or advice to someone who asks for it . As long as it is within manufacturers guidelines I see no problem , guess some just like to disagree for the sake of disagreeing .

I seldom post any specific loads. I'll suggest powder and components, sometimes a load range, but seldom anything specific. You don't know the accuracy of mine or anyone else's scales, and data is so accessible these days through websites, why not do some sleuthing, after all it's a good habit to learn.

H1000 is my go to powder in the 300 Win Mag. I shoot 215 Bergers out of mine with great success. Federal GM215M primers with Nosler brass. I won't say my load as my gun is a full custom including the reamer I used. Gets me right at 3000 fps with the 215 Berger. Crunch those numbers in your ballistic calculator. It is a hard combo to beat.

3000 with a 215. Impressive. What length barrel?

26" Brux with a holland brake, Borden action sitting in a McMillan game scout. I got the reamer specs from Broz on long range hunting forum. My friend built one at the same time with a stiller in a manners EH1. He's using different brass so loads 2 gr less than me. His also shoots the 215 at 3000 fps. Both shoot tiny little groups. Finish weight of mine is 10 lb 2 oz with a NF SHV.

H4831 SC is what mine likes. 74.5 gr will put a 180 Barnes TSX in the same hole but shows pressure signs. 73 gr. gives .5" groups which is just fine. Fed 215M primers. Rem brass. COL 3.475, Shot from 2 different Remingtons, one carbon, one stainless. 26" tube

74 gr.=3019 fps
74.5 gr=3017-3042 fps
75 gr=3086 fps

I have ugly pictures of terminal performance on whitetail at 200 yds. for all the pencil theory's that are out. Saw no need to load 200 gr. when a 180 gr. non-fragmenting pill with such terminal destruction is used. My .02, each their own.
Also bought the Larry Willis die for the 300WM, worth every penny.

Best results from my Sakos 200+ Grn bullet - IMR 7828, for 180's and under IMR 4831.

My Hot Match Loads are:

208ELDM 3.600 COL 73G 7828 215M Primers
208ELDM 3.600 COL 72.5G H4831SC 215M Primers

These work for my gun, may not work for yours. Coffee Cups at a Kilometer, Pie Plates at a mile. Patience and Load Development, lots of practice and a decent optic also play into it. Hell, Won the national 30 cal thundershot long range challenge last year with it.
