Exclamation Spruce Grove Range Fighting Land Use ByLaw - Asks for Help

Got this via email. Anyone with time on the 15th, it would help a lot to have a real strong showing or we are going to get more Municipalities trying the same non-sense.

Dear members & supporters:

Parkland County will be hosting a public open house on Thursday, June 15 from 4:30-8:00pm at Parkland County Centre.

The County wants to hear from you regarding your thoughts on the proposed land use bylaw amendment to exclude the use of Outdoor Gun Ranges from Country Residential lands.

This will PROHIBIT SGGC from re-opening as The County rezoned our location to Country Residential in 2009.

Please attend. Ten minutes of your time could save your Club. Your face to face input with the county staff is imperative! Let them know you want and need a safe and educational place to enjoy sport shooting. Let them know you want SGGC to re-open.

Thank you,
Spruce Grove Gun Club

Default This could be bad news.

If the county re-zoned the land to R1 I would say the option is already gone. Who owns the land and requested the re-zoning? The owners want a residential subdivision on the land and nothing else.

If you go into the county office ask to see the minutes of the meeting which re-zoned the land to R1. That should tell you all you need to know.

Sorry I wish I had better news.

This goes much deeper then just the Spruce Grove Gun Club. There are other gun clubs in the County that can/will be affected. Other user groups such as Air Cadets, 4-H, Junior Forest Wardens, as well as Paint Ball Clubs, and Archery Clubs, farmers, and even shooting a bb gun in your back yard could eventually be shut down or scrutinized by this as well. Every County of Parkland resident should be coming to this open house, and letting the County know that there has to be room in the County for all user groups. Changing bylaws to limit land use, and changing large portions of land to Country Residential without adequate consultation with the residents, does not allow all County residents to enjoy our lands to the fullest. As well, we need to remember these attacks this fall at election time.
