Default Bear Bait....

Hey i had a strange thought today....rather than use beavers, could a guy use skinned out yotes as a stinky bear attractor?...I am aware other critters wont touch a dead yote, but not to sure about bears......anyone ever try it?

Default not sure

I've seen coyote body parts lay on the ground for days and days in plain view and not even the ravens would touch it. I don't know about bears though...you could always put one with a beaver and see if they'll eat it.

Default nope

i bait for 45 days a year and over 60 bait sites and they wont touch it, i also tryed muskrat and otter carcuss and they wont touch that either, i got no idea why but they will take a beaver right off the same bait site, take the beaver away and the muskrat will sit tehre till the maggets got er cleaned up.

Brian, it is most likely because the coyote is a predator and it will not be as tasty. Most bears will not even eat another bear carcass for some reason. It does happen and it is a fact that big bears will sometimes feed on cubs but if you have a dead bear carcass it is rare that they would feed off of it and I think it would be the same for the coyotes

Probably easier to get meat scraps from the local slaughter house. Smell better too. Bears are not above eating their brother either. Friend of mine had to leave one out overnight. His buddies had worked him over pretty good, by next morning.
