Your fencer will function much better if your use a galvanized ground rod vrs a piece of rebar. The rebar will rust shortly, reducing your ground effectiveness and thus less shock.

Made some adjustments to the fence, the Mrs said remove the lower wires under the deck don't need to electrocute another skunk & squirt again. After a week or more, we have had a number of deer coming into the yard, but would stop & look then move on, however, this young buck was planning to chow down on the rose buds/blooms but got a .... zip & departed, nothing eaten, fence works.

Tail between his leg's .... run!

We use a electric fence to keep deer out of the garden.
The key has been to have what’s been described as 3 D fencing. Also being il used around bale yards with success.
A 2 or 3 wire hot fence and another single wire hot fence about 4 feet inside the first fence. Deer will jump most any fence but this design has a second fence in the landing zone.
It works well, we couldn’t grow a garden without it and saved the expense of a 8 foot tall fence.

A few years back had blue herons raiding my trout pond.

So I did a 5 wire loop on plastic posts 2 ground and 3 hot plus the obligatory ground rod worked good for a few days got to see the dance of the smoking crane lol

Till my horse figured out she could push the post over and short it out into the water, damn thing had a fresh well water fountain but just had to drink the scummy pond water.

No trout left once the birds figured out to follow her got tired of fishing posts and tangles of wire out of the pond Now it's just a leach supply locker.
