I just looked at a pic of a Boar shot near PA Sask. by the guys brother,it was a LOT bigger than 250 lbs.,that's for sure!
Seems to me I remember reading that Hogs will continue to grow through their life time,as long as food and habitat is available.

Don't think it's so much about secret spots , as the randomness of where and how many pigs there are. Needle in a hay stack , when it comes down to it, which isn't a bad thing, since the aim is to eradicate them.

So out of curiosity, when did a non-resident Canadian start to need an outfitter to hunt feral pigs. Have they applied this to shooting gophers as well? Serious question, not being a smart aleck. Thanks.

Nope, as an Alberta resident you can shoot all the gophers you want in Saskatchewan on land to which you have the right of access.

You cannot however shoot wild hogs, coyotes, fox, wolves or virtually anything else on that land. You can book into a hunt farm like North Battleford and shoot hogs but they are considered an outfitter.

Guys be careful what you shoot. Someone shot a pet hog almost in the farmers yard west of Edmonton a few months back.

Non-residents of Saskatchewan cannot legally hunt escaped feral wild boar in the province. Under the Wildlife Regulations, only Saskatchewan residents are allowed to hunt escaped wild boar.

HogWild at Mayerthorpe has hogs you can shoot for a fee and some escapees that are free.

Default Wild Boar

I have hunted Russian wild boars in Argentina and multiple times in Uruguay. They were totally nocturnal and wilder than snakes. Not easy to hunt at all ..

North of stony I’ve seen a few over the years including one in Stony Plain right in front of the parkland services building. There was a real big bigger a few years back in the Muir lake school parking lot. Seen him there quite a few times.

I used to drive the highway from Wabamun to Edmonton for work for 8 years. I’ve seen 3 dead in the ditch near Stony Plain during that time. The first time I even hit the next overpass to turn around and drive by a second time as I didn’t believe my eyes.

I hope the law has changed in the last couple months as I have numerous places in Saskatchewan that I can shoot free running wild hogs, but as I stated before only residents of Saskatchewan can LEGALLY shoot them without going through an outfitter, and as far as I know it's is still the same.

So all you doubters out there do yourself a favor and call the following number 306-825-6432 that is the Saskatchewan Fish and Game district office in Lloydminster, there at 2 CO's there Rob Granger and Lloyd Moore ask them straight out and then you will know, then please post their response.

I know both of them personally and have had this conversation numerous times with them.

Elkhunter11 posted the link to the sask regs also in this thread, click on it and read it.

And so they should. Once them breeding factories get a leg hold there there for good. ask the southern US states. over run and not enough hunters.
you wants some fun,go way south and shoot as many as you can. Hell in Texas they use choppers and shoot automatic weapons to try and slow them down. now that would be a blast.

Boots on the ground, talk to people who might know. Word usually gets around.

Better be quick. There's sure to be a 'Wildie', save the pigs group formed before long.

Default Wild boar

Got a chance to hunt some boar in Latvia before everything shut down over here. The hunt was over bait, from a stand. As you can see from the NV scope, they hunt mostly at night and they use suppressors as the boars tend to disappear quickly once they know they are being hunted. I was lucky to get this one in daylight as the boar was trying to sneak into the bait pile ahead of a large sounder that usually showed up just after dark.

The other option is a driven hunt in areas where you know they are. Big group of drivers and dogs pushes through towards a line of shooters. Obviously, a lot of things we can't do in Canada, but that's how they do it over here.

Man up and get them with a knife. Shooting one would be a waste.
