The best thing you can do is to try different powder/bullet combinations.Every firearm is different and what works in mine may not in yours.
In the Remington CDL my son uses we are loading 90grain Nosler Partitions, with IMR 4350. Out to 150 yards or so he is getting complete penetration.
From what I saw this fall this bullet/powder combo should be fine out to a couple hundred yards or so.
Pick up a couple reloading manuals and start reading

Hope this helps
Ian

Time spent evaluating and testing is a must.
x2 from above.

Powders to rty are H or IMR 4350, IMR 4831, IMR 7828SSC, RL22, Magpro, Winchester Supreme 780.

Primers will be a function of availability.

Bullets should be of at least 90gr. or more, and be built to withstand impact velocities of 3000fps +or-

Good luck.

Varget is another option and although I agree with Dick and learn from him on a regular basis the 85gr TSX (Barnes) is one bullet under 90grs that has proven a performer for me in the 243. Accurate and deadly

x3 re: working up/testing loads in your rifle.

For my .243 on deer size game I have had very good success with a 90gr Swift Scirocco II on top of a max load of IMR4064.

Mine likes a 95 CT Bal Silvertip pushed pretty hard with IMR4350 or RL-19. If you can find a good accurate load with the 85 TSX they can be launched pretty fast as well and should be really effective. .243 is pretty easy to load for and does well with all sorts of powders in the right range. 100 grain Partition is another deadly one.

One more thing. If you are loading for the TSX you may have to play with your OAL. I have found that they like a little more jump into the lands than most. Follow the guidelines found in the Barnes manual and they explain it fairly well.

Ditto on the OAL front for the 90gr Sciroccos. My Swift reloading manual did not have any data for this bullet so I called Swift to get some info. Bill Hober the president of Swift returned my call (how's that for service) and gave me a bunch of load data and indicated they like to be seated pretty far of the lands. My final OAL for this load ended up being 2.63".
