Default Nafa May Sale Results

Higher Turnover at Nafa’s Wild Fur Sale
NAFA’s two day Wild Fur sale opened with a strong attendance of 400 buyers from all the major markets. China was the main
buyer, with good support from Greece and Russia, while Korea and Europe participated in some fashion articles. It is obvious that
the reduced Russian fur retail activity continues to have a major effect on Wild Fur.
From the onset, NAFA’s selling policy was to encourage an increase in the percentage of sale. Otters sold 100% at firm levels,
mostly to China and Greece. Fishers and Muskrats sold 100% at slightly easier price levels, again mostly to China. Can/Am
Sables sold 100% at price levels comparable to our February sale, with premiums being paid for bigger size, heavier sables.
Better section Coyotes sold very well at levels firm to February, while commercial and flatter goods continued to struggle.
Western Lynx Cats also sold well, with better quality and colours advancing over February and selling 80%. Other sections sold
60%. Beaver sold 60% at lower price levels than February. While new buyers are purchasing this article, it is still very obvious that
the dressing capacity and the cost of dressing and shearing Beaver remains a major obstacle. Wild Mink continued to struggle,
selling 60%.
NAFA’s selling policy resulted in a 75% sale of the sundry owner Raccoon, with the low grades and small sizes selling 100%.
While the price levels are unsatisfactory to all of us, we were able to sell off colours, as well as small sizes that we did not sell in
February. As stated before, we strongly believe that it is very important that our Wild Fur be put into the hands of manufacturers,
retailers and consumers for the upcoming retail season.
