how many of each pattern do you have in your box?
Generally I have 4 in every size of a pattern. There are a few I have up to 10 of in one size.
How about you?

The more you have the better. Two summer's ago I had not re-stocked my fly box over the winter. Just so happens it was the best Salmon fishing in 50 years on this particular river in NB. On more than one occasion I found myself in a mad dash back to the camp to whip up a few more #2 Black Bear's. I spent so much time on the river that summer I never did have time to catch up on my tying.

Stuff I know works I carry at least 10, trial stuff I tie 4. I've tied about 100 Wooly buggers getting ready for the year to come. A wack of little streamers as well, although they have not been tried. They look good and I'm sure will work so I went crazy on them as well. I have over 200 choronimids as well but they are more mixed, we'll see what works and what doesn't.

too many. but on the really good days, sometimes not enough of just the right one.
always have to have extras for your fishing buddy to share, that's a given.

About a dozen
It's windy in southern Alberta though... and I give mine out to friends and anglers I meet. It's a blast to see someone catch a fish on something I tied for them. I don't carry a ton of patterns though, I am a pretty ****-poor entomologist

My stash usually consists of a dozen or so of my favorites, wooly buggers, leeches, prince nymphs, stimulators, chronomids, spratleys. These I carry with me all the time. Will have others back at the truck if I need to try new stuff or restock my boxes.

When it comes to chironomids I carry up to 20 or more of one pattern in one size lol. I love chironomid fishing.
same with drys, I will carry alot of them as they sometimes dont stand up to a ton of fish depending on what pattern it is.
I have one dry pattern I have never shared that is my go to for any hatch and I use in lakes, rivers and streams. I have alot of that one

I used to try to keep a size 10, 12 and 14 of each in the box and
5 to 10 of the favorites or go tos like Royal Coachmans and such.
I didn't need to wear a life presurver because I carried upto 6 or 7
fly boxes in my vest, all the floatation I needed.
Looking back on it now it does seem kind of odd to tote along the
Green Drakes in April, guess I could have stopped by a farm pond
on the way back and have used them on bluegills ?

3-10, depending on which pattern. 10 is pretty excessive though haha.
