Default Respect for nature

So...
I have my horses on a pasture by a busy road. Other day heard shots fired in my pasture.
Fellow was parked in the driveway. I got his plate number and left him be.
After he left I went and checked out where he went in the pasture
At the end of his track was a little buck... the fellow shot the buck and then just left it.
What type of guy would do this??
Disgusting...

Given you have his plate number and you are an eye witness, if you don't report it you'll have to ask yourself a question: Am I part of the problem or the solution to it?

Sounds like a lack of respect for lots of things. Like your personal property, the safety of your animals, nature, life also the law.

I really have a hard time understanding how people can be such azz hats. Besides all the obvious questions, why would someone want to shoot a big buck so bad that they'd pull this crap?

Good job.

Not trying to derail... but sometimes I wonder if its social media where all you see is giant farmed bucks. If it's anything less then a giant your not a good hunter.

I have had my share of ground shrinkage but they all were trophies to me and all tasted good.

Good on you for reporting the individual(s). Hopefully the meat was salvaged.

I have no idea why anyone would do something like that. Wanted to take the chance and Trespass and then chickened out? Thought it was a different species of deer......had bigger antlers......what?

These types definitely need a charge to help them gain self discipline.

seems a little odd there are horses in this pasture you hear someone shooting and all you do is take a license plate number I let him go why wouldn't you confront them but hey that's your business.

Did you report it to fish and wildlife.

Yes
F&w was reported to.

Now if I told you it was a grazing lease and there was no permission granted...

Shooting and leaving an animal is unacceptable anywhere anytime.

I have had idiots turn their truck sideways on road in dark to see how large the antlers are on my horses.

As far as I can tell he will get failure to tag an animal, Abandoning an animal (wildlife charges) then he will get failure to get authorization from lease holder & accessing a grazing lease while livestock is on it (if no access while livestock on grazing lease is a condition).

The 2 grazing lease infractions are recreational infractions and carry a fine of $287 each. Not sure about the other charges but they are more serious.

For sure the giant buck pics weigh in on some people’s perceptions of what is big or big enough. My buddy was chirping in my ear not to shoot a 4x4 with no brows. He was a decent bodied buck. For some reason I let that process long enough in my brain that the buck turned away and walked off. Next buck I saw was a 3x4. And bang! That buck tasted great

Either way , perception or dreams of grandeur... it’s never right to leave an animal to waste. No matter the size.
