That’s what I thought.

At one time there was talk of destroying the entire herd, public pressure put a stop to that. I'd be looking for wolves as well, some really big beasts that prey on the bison.

Grizz

I know this isn't specifically what the OP asked about but with such very high infection rates this is going to get into the domestic cattle herd eventually. The gov either needs to start a widespread inoculation and control program or step up and wipe out these herds. If it gets into cattle the damage will be in the tens of billions. Sticking our heads in the sand on this and CWD is not going to make it go away.

Here's a write up by Alberta government.... the bison hunting education booklet. It does have some good info to know.

Some pretty intimidating weight information on page 10 of that booklet.

Hey Turbo, been long enough to forget how much work it was? I'd still like to kill one myself one day. That was a good time.

I'd also add that this isn't a hunt that I would advise to do alone. It's really big country and unforgiving. When we were up there it was cold. Like -30_ -40 at night. A sled breakdown becomes a survival challenge really fast. Deep snow that is different than any snow I had sledded in before. Be prepared to put LOTS of miles on a sled to find them. Carry extra fuel...every day we used our Jerry cans to get back to camp.
Have fun!
