Default Mule buck down, Euro mount but mandatory cwd.

Hey guys, was looking for a big boy to tag this year but after 4 days and seeing spikers and wanting my 4 year old to experience hunting so I decided to take this guy. He was bedded down on the side of a coulie. In the 21 years I've been hunting I've never heard a dear make noise, this guy was dead asleep eyes closed and when he got hit he lifted his head and let out a huge grunt, the shot was a double lunger. After he let the grunt out he dropped his head and died his body didn't move an inch.

I want to get a Euro mount done but mandatory cwd in my area. Can I remove whatever is needed so I don't have to send it away. Has anyone done this?

Yup. My partner just did it for both our bucks shot last Wednesday.

From Alberta.ca:

For so-called ‘European’ mounts, submit the following tissues:

All tissues from the roof of the mouth at the back of the throat (this must contain the necessary lymph nodes), and

The part of the brain that contains the connection between the spinal cord and the brain (this lies ~5 cm inside the big hole at the back of the skull)

Bag the two samples separately and then put the two bags together in a third bag. This keeps all tissues from one animal together.

Keep the deer head (or tissue samples as above) frozen.

You can drop off the frozen head at any Fish and Wildlife office in Alberta (during regular office hours)

During fall rifle seasons there are 24-hour freezer locations where heads can be dropped off. See Related Information below for CWD Freezer Locations (Deer Hunters: Assist Us With Our CWD Surveillance).

My partner found several videos online to show the process.

Oh, and nice buck!

Nice job getting a deer with the boy.
I'm sure he's hooked now.

Did you mean you've never heard a deer make that particular noise, or have you never heard a deer make noise at all before?

Well I bagged it all up today. Found a couple vids on it but not much when it came too getting into the brain, wrong keywords in search maybe. Cut alittle too far forward on the jaw and cut one of the lymph nodes in half and got as much of the spinal cord and in a good couple of inches. If it's not up to par I wonder if they will let me know?

They will give you a inconclusive based on insufficient materials I believe. I haven’t got it myself but I know a guy who got that back as a result.
