Sylvan - September Whites & a few Walleyes
When out with Scott (Bwackwabbit) today, what a Bty day, very little to no wind and very few boats on Sylvan, we almost had the entire lake to ourself. Tried a number of our ice fishin spots, all produced fish, we had our best success vertical jigging in 14 to 21 fow. Launched at Halfmoon Bay (RR21) and ended up catching most of our fish not far from the launch. Caught lots & lots of walleye all nice size, one small pike and 3 whites, no perch.
It was a fun day ...
A few pic's to share.
Cheers

Three Sisters ... unfortunately, they all had lots of eggs developing.

This mini (1/32 oz) Mr. Twister jig (no bait) was the hot presentation today, both W&W just loved it.

September 24th -
What a BTY day, very little to no wind and warm decided to go out for a couple hours in my float tube and enjoyed the sun. It was just after 1:00 pm, started in 6-7 fow & tried a couple of my favorite W/W on a strike indicator with no success. Decided to switch up & tied on my mini 1/32 oz Mr Twister moved a bit deeper, was vertical jigging, could barely see the bottom perhaps 10-12 fow over sand and rock rubble. Bang, nailed one, nice White, netted it and into my bag. Got set up again, bang another one, felt good, it actually did a tail dance on the surface like a rainbow, got it into the net. Dropped the line down and noticed I was off my spot moved back into the general location and got 3 more within ½ hour … called it a day.
Some pic’s to share.
Cheers

Nice work Zip!
Those eggs in the female white got me thinking if there is an easy way to tell male from female. With the thought for fall fishing of putting back the females and only keeping males. This is not something I really gave much of a thought until this post. The larger belly should be a bit of a giveaway when they are really full. I also found this:
Breeding Adults:
Males with numerous small tubercles on body, females with fewer.
Small white spots or raised nodules apparently. I'll see if I can actually spot the spots this fall because I haven't even tried before.

D .... then I'll send you my Waypoint for this spot ... so when I'm in California in January sipping on an umbrella cool one by the palm tree's next to my pool, I can read your posts & see some pic's.
Got to go the Mrs said suppers ready and she's having beer battered Whitefish and I get yesterdays leftovers.
Cheers

Hey David .... agreed, had one scrapper that actually moved me around in my float tube then broke the surface and did a little dance before it ended up in my net .... I was thinking of going out today but we had a bit of a north wind that changed my mind. I imagine the Whites are moving into their per-spawn locations and I was fortunate to find a concentration of active fish.
For those following this thread who enjoy fishing for Mr. White consider trying a mini 1/32 oz Mr. Twister in a brown/black minnow pattern, there are days when they just love them.
Edit .... HappyFisher ... looks like your all set up with a new Shack, Gps/Flasher, bet you can hardly wait to test it all out with us this December on Gull.
Cheers
David
