Default Bullet grain for deer

Hey guys I'm currently shooting at .300 win mag but have not harvested a animal yet, I am just curious if 180 grain is to much for a deer? Should I go with a 165 grain for deer then move to 180 for moose or elk.

Choose one bullet weight for all of your big game hunting.

100% yupp! especially if you have multiple tags in your pocket and a chance at deer or wolf or moose or elk in the same sit.
having only one bullet option eliminates alot of stress or possibilites of last second mistakes.
the KISS philosophy will make your hunt more successful.

Yup, one bullet and one loading .
They will all take a white tail for the most part as long as it's put in the right place!!
I've loaded a bunch of different bullets for my 6.5's but usually grab the big slow jobs for my goto rifle, same bullets and loadings I've been using for 25 years or more out of the 6.5X55.

A 180 will be perfect out of a 300 for deer - and moose, elk, bears and whatever else runs in front of it!

Awesome thanks guys... I'm sighted in with 180 grain, but was just curious if 180 was to much, I will stick to 180. Thanks again

My .375ruger with 270gr Softpoints may be too much, but dead is dead.

I use 180 gr TTSX in my 300 WinMag.
It is good all around load.

180 is not too much! Given a choice for deer I would choose 180 over say a 150 in a 300 mag. Unless a premium bullet is selected there may be a greater chance of jacket core separation with the lighter bullet at mag velocity.

That said the KISS of one load for everything is the best reason for selecting the 180.
