Default Are the elk in 357 out in the farm fields?

Got a couple cow tags and was hoping to get some info before we commit to a trip. It's a long drive for us.

Are the elk hitting the farm fields yet around GP/beaverlodge?

Thanks!

So with the cold snap coming up, there would be a decent chance of catching one coming out a bit early?

With 15 hrs of night I doubt they would be early.
Catch then at morning legal is best bet.

Not enough hrs of sunlight.

Most people waste their time on fields from oct to Jan. While yes you may see them feeding, the chances are slim. I've always had success at around 9-11am in the bush about a mile in or two from feed, where the elk head into the deep stuff to bed. Get in the bush on the skinny cut lines where you know they travel to and your odds will go up x10 fold.
Hope that helps. It won't feel right at first but I promise you will see more critters.

I've been to busy to look at the forecast but -20 with no wind will keep them in the field longer. One problem you might run into is that it is pretty bright out well before shooting light. Use the wind to your favour but be prepared to work for your animal. Not much snow up here but lots of snow drifts so mobility might be limited.

Saw a herd of 30 in a field near Valhalla near sunset a few days ago. So some are.

Had the day off today and went for a tour this morning. Surprisingly there wasn't much elk sign at all. Kind of depressing actually.

They're still in the bush. Was up on the old Trapline yesterday and there was still lots of sign up there.

Plenty of Elk hitting the fields, just helped a friend and wife fill their 2 tags. On the alfalfa as usual. Get your permission and get to it.
