Default Swimming place for my dog near Calgary

Hi Folks,
I live in the north end of Calgary. I have a beautiful chocolate lab who is an amazing pheasant dog and loves the water. I am looking for a nice clean and safe place to take her swimming and do some water retrieving. Everything I find around here is so filthy and weedy. There is a concern right now with the Blue Green Algae issue and I don't want to risk it. Pine lake recently closed due to this and even two ponds in Airdrie are closed because of it.
A lot of people are very opposed to Nose Creek due to contaminants in the water and their dogs getting sick from swimming in it.
I was thinking about running out to K Country but the provincial regs require her to be on leash. Does anyone have any suggestions where I could take her for a cool swim within a reasonable drive?
I appreciate any thoughts you have.
Thanks gang.

Bowness dog park has on offset of the river that fills with water by the railroad tracks. Off leash area too. Go across the first dog park and out the backside. Walk straight ahead and you should run into it. At least last time I was there it was there.

Always used to take our lab to ghost reservoir. Park at launch, lots of places for your friend to swim.

The Sue Higgins Park and Off-Leash area has access to the Bow River in multiple locations. Lots of people take their dogs swimming there when the river is running normal. A dog can get a good workout swimming against the current, or have a leisurely dip in the calmer water behind the gravel bar.
It gets enough use that the silt doesn't get much chance to build up along there; way cleaner than any slough around Calgary.
Parking is located at the east end of Southland Drive, or, a 10 minute walk from Carburn Park in Riverbend via the pedestrian bridge.

The one in Bowness I haven't been to, Southland is great, there is also one off 25th st and Peigan, head north on 25th to the entrance to the golf course, on the west end of the bridge over Deerfoot, and there is one at the old Imperial oil refinery site on the north end of Lynnwood Ridge, entrance is off Ogden Rd just south of the 50th ave exit onto Ogden Rd. Also a pond in the one at the east end of 64th ave NE, and gophers, it is shallow and muddy though. Not sure what the city has done with the storm drain ponds along the east side, maybe some of them are accessible. Dalemead is accessible, Namaka is accessible, Bruce Lk is accessible if you ask Tschetter colony, they own the east side, that is east of hwy 9 on tp262. Three point and Fisher crk are accessible out in Maclean crk area, also been along the Elbow west of Ford crk, Sibbald crk by the APRA range rd. Take your pick. Grouse are open in Sept in K country, dog can be off leash, there are wolves and bears and cats out there to keep an eye out for though, and you need to have control on the dog as far as chasing critters goes. Ghost river area is accessible also, west of the Bar C on 940.

Even though it's just outside the City Limits, Rockyview County does not allow dogs off leash in areas not designated "OFF LEASH".

McKinnon Flats is one of those areas. Dogs are NOT allowed to run freely there...

Hey Jigger,
Just found this on line. List of Alberta lakes currently have the blue green algae.

City list of off leash dog parks, there are plenty of them, most without water, but lots of variety;

It looks like they may have closed up the one at the refinery site off Ogden Rd, it was closed for bank remediation the last couple of yrs, S, of the rail bridge, thought it may have been reopened by now, the folk at the top of the hill S. of the rail bridge go down on the flats to the river there all the time, which doesn't show as a park anymore, which would be the N. end of what they show as being the off leash area, it is a flood zone, remediation was on the north end.

There's a designated area on the Elbow River in Riverdale off leash park. I take my Newfoundland there often. Great place most of the year.

Chestermere has a good spot to let your pooch swim too.

It’s completely gravelled with 2” wash and I had my pup there for over an hour Thursday. He had a blast.

Yeah to the north.

It’s right behind city hall, a long narrow strip that runs from the parking lot north.
