Default Mossberg 4x4 300 Win Mag, thoughts?

Looking at a new Mossberg 4x4 300 Win Mag for moose and elk, and wondering if anyone has any experience with this rifle? This model has the laminate stock, stainless barrel and clip.

A friend just bought a 4X4 in 270. Amazingly accurate right out of the box.

You might want to do your research, it doesn't get favourible reviews. Just use the "search" button on the top toll bar and I'm sure you'll come up with a few threads. If you're on a tight budget, you might be better off with a Stevens 200 and put some decent glass on it.

For a budget type rifle "I asked these same questions" the general consensus that I have heard everywhere from just about everyone is go with the stevens 200. You can get them in just about any caliber you want and there are far more options to improve them later on. Heck even a guy at a shop that didn't have a stevens to sell me steered me away from the mossberg I had in my hand at the time

Another option for an affordable gun would be the Marlin XL7 the biggest caliber it comes in is 30-06 which for what you mentioned is tons of gun. Just another idea I guess. You really dont want a mossberg anything. They are basically known for dirt cheap guns and it ends there. My lil bro had the same firearm in .270win and it would do no better than about 2.5inch groups no matter what you put through it. With the average around 3inches. I know you arent talking a benchrest rifle but accuracy only goes down from there as it ages. If you were to save a couple hundred extra you could get a blued synthetic tikka and you would have accuracy shooting nearly any ammo. Or find a good used rifle...and get a higher end rifle for a reasonable price.

I have a .270 Remington 710 for sale(wifes gun) that is about the same quality. Wouldnt recomend either. The 710 shoots good but it ends there both guns are very poor quality.

you can make a guitar , tennis racket , windsock , canoe paddle , and most often ...kindling out of a mossberg 4x4. it does it all bud. just think of the possibilites. i say get the 4x4. then if someone says , " i wish i had a guy with rifle that looks like a cheap kids toy to go hunting with" , then you can look at him and say "you just got yourself a hunting partner"

and thats about enough sarcasm for one day from me.

Thumbs down 4x4 nogo

There are much better economy rifles out there and the Mossberg centerfire bolt action series just ain't one of 'em.
If you absolutely have to go with a Remington 710...but then again they have *****ty reviews too.
Spend the money......you get what you pay for
Good Luck

A chap with a Mosberg plastic stock that came with a scope asked me for help at the Range as POI was not consistent @ 100M. Even after fidling, the scope had about 3" parallax shift, so there was no way we could even see how the rifle really shot.
