Curious as to why none of my furs except one coyote were in this auction. I had a dozen marten, some fisher, otter, lynx, wolf etc!! Why did they sell your marten and not even include mine in the sale

Well what a lame day! I tried to be positive but it didn't work and down in the dumps now lol
I sold 8 muskrats that were I* so they wed top notch and I averaged 6$ each
Somehow one of my 7 beavers sold for $15
With Marten prices like todays I think I may hold onto mine for a year or 2. Can they go any lower than today?

Well looks like the rest of my marten sold PT. $44 avg... but at least they sold.
Beaver sold as well. Now it's lynx and after that it's all up to the squirrels to decide what we will be eating on the line this winter

Sold 5 slight damage beaver for $10 average. 2 slight damage marten for $44 and one first grade for $74. 2 lynx for $130 one $80 and one $90. At least they sold. Not sure if Russia will be our friend anymore this season. If they are out oof the market could be a tough season.

Absolute brutal sale. Sold 275 rats and averaged $7.80! I have a feeling listening to the auction that this was a very bad idea to sell them in this NEW September sale. I'm going to be seriously ****ed if they are back at $11.00 next sale.
They blew through the rats starting at 4:40pm and where all done by 4:59pm (last lots sold end of the day). Just before they started you could here the auctioneer ask someone "are the muskrat buyers even in here?"
I couldn't be more disgusted with how this all went down. In the end its my fault for shipping to them and allowing them to be sold in this auction BUT i expect NAFA to do there part in trying to get what should be a fair price.
If the price is back to where it has been for rats for the last 3 years + or - at the next sale the obviously it was how this was handled and will be the last time i EVER ship to NAFA!

The sale was very positive considering what the current market conditions actually are. Dave Bewick mentioned that there were 80,000,000 ranch mink available to be sold in the world last year, and because the current downfall surprised everybody in the ranch world, we are looking again at another production year of 80,000,000 ranch mink coming to the market in the next season. So just to have excellent clearance on the ranch mink is most welcome.

Ranch fur... We are trappers. Who cares right? Wrong! The price of wild is almost always dictated by the price of ranch fur. If ranch is doing well, then wild will follow suit. Muskrat especially follows the ranch mink price. If the market was normal, the price of muskrat would probably be ringing in at $2 or $3. In all likelihood the reason the rat prices haven't fallen down yet is due to NAFA's promotional work into new markets, thereby saving the day and propping up the current fall market of last years leftovers.

If you got $7 bucks for your rats now, you might be happy if in Jan/Feb the market is at $2?

Normally September sales are comprised of last seasons leftovers. A traditional fact. If we want to excel at marketing, then we need to excel in our marketing homework.

Yes full prime quality spring rats.

Marty, if this Sept. sale is a dump of last seasons "left overs" and price is expected to be down 40%+ that would have been a handy piece of information to have when i dropped them off to you. I would have held them over.

By my math this sale averaged $7.14, pretty sad compared to the last 4 years. I guess we'll see in Feb. and then i'll have done my "homework".

One never knows what they will do with the fresh that comes in after the last (May) sale. Often they hold the fresh until the next seaon for a Jan or Feb sale. This time they sold, but there is still a good market. Truly $7.50 is a good price for rats, yes they were higher but we can only speculate what will be in the future market. I cannot guarantee that we will have $10 rats or $12 rats in Feb, neither can I say that rats won't go largely unsold with NAFA trying to protect the market. I think all we know is that NAFA won't allow the market to fall by more than 30% on a particular sale.
