short barrelled shot guns for Pheasant

Had chance to shot a grouse with a slug barrel on buddies pump action gun shot gun , it had a bird game round in it .
I thought this was a neat little little idea for having on an ATV .
Thought may be getting one my self for going pheasant hunting as it is very light and short.
Has anyone else used one for pheasant hunting?
Is there any other pumps out there with short barrels to do the job ?

I used to hunt deer in a pheasant rich environment. We would hunt with Remingon 870's with the slug barrel with the first round a pheasant load and the next two slugs. Killed lots of birds and always got our deer.

It all depends on what you want to buy. If you want a short barrelled shotgun with rifled sights to shoot bird loads and slugs I would buy an 870 with a slug barrel that was not rifled but had screw in chokes. You can run a rifled choke if you want or and choke constriction you desire. If you will also shoot slugs I wouldn't choke tighter than a modified choke with regular foster style slugs. Improved cylinder is better.

Other options would be a mossberg 500 with the same set up as above.

Some work some don’t...my 870 with an 18in barrel throws a crazy 4 ft wide pattern at 10 yards with 7.5 shot. Just be sure to pattern whatever you decide on before hunting.

My Ithaca 20" smooth bore Deluxe Deerslayer throws a mod pattern.Works as a truck gun for grouse.

I used a stoeger coach gun for a couple of seasons on grouse. I really liked that shotgun, but even with my Frankenstein 3/4 oz loads there was just too much shot in the air

(I hot glued a few washers into the wad to make up the weight)

That stoeger was choked imp/mod with double triggers. Not a lot of difference in the shot patterns. They stayed nice and uniform, gaining about an inch per yard out to about 35 yds or so. It would also shoot both barrels touching at 50 with bulk winchester slugs.

Switched back to a .410 this year. It's what I've been using since I could lift it.

Years ago as a kid hunting bush and beaver dams in Ont. I went from a single shot 20 to a short barreled 12 pump, I think it was 18", Well I missed more ruffed grouse and ducks with that thing, I went back to the 20G with a tighter pattern and I was bringing home the meat again,

People are posting about their grouse guns, but ground swatting grouse is far different than shooting pheasant on the wing,. A gun that works well for ground swatting grouse may not work at all well for pheasant hunting.

Pretty sure Henderson can custom thread any of the short barrels to take any of the major manufacturers chokes. This would including the cheap but damn good Turkish made Churchills with the 11.5 inch barrels.. gives you quite a few more options for that chicken gun.
