Default G96 gun treatment

Is a patch with G96 Gun treatment rum down a bore not a bad idea before storing firearms for a while in a safe between outings? Better options?

Swab it good with Hoppies 9, they dry and leave it well oiled.

Default G96

I've had a LARGE can for a few years...
Wholesale Sports only had this small can...wow $20.

I've always used G96 on my bolt action components after cleaning.
Recently, I've started using it to finalize my barrel cleaning.
Always use brushless WIPE-OUT method...
followed up with 3 seperate G96 patches that grab black carbon residue.
Another 4 DRY patches to remove G96 and show clean patches.
It also smells good !

Eezox is what I've started using. It dries without residue while still providing protection. As such it doesn't need to be swabbed out prior to shooting and they say it doesn't need a fouling shot or two before returning to zero. Time will tell.
G96 seems to be a good product also. I've used it lots in the past.

I always use G-96 before storing firearms. Just be sure to dry swab the barrel before firing.

Is G96 good for wiping down outside metal surfaces? I normally use Rem Oil wipes.

Yes it works great. I spray it on paper towel and wipe my rifles with it.

Curious if it's harmful to stock finishes like the dura touch coating on brownings

Man I love the smell, remember cleaning the shot gun in the kitchen, and spraying down the barrel and the X comes around the corner and hits the linoleum and down she goes...ended gun cleaning in the kitchen..

You don't need to dry swab a barrel before shooting if you've treated it with G96. Caveat: as long as it isn't dripping wet with the stuff.

I use a wet patch of G96 after wipe-out cleaning. Then one dry patch before storage. I never dry patch before shooting.

Well yeah, you do. You dry patch before storage then you shoot it.

Unlike you, some people leave the G-96 in the barrel for longer periods of storage, so they should dry swab the barrel before firing. Since you have already dry swabbed the barrel after cleaning, there is no need to dry swab it a second time.

Wow, tough crowd. One dry patch down the barrel doesn't remove all of the G96. Heck, I've shot many of my rifles with a wet bore with G96. Just remember the caveat; as long as it's not dripping or running down the barrel.

Most of it evaporates anyway, I spray it down the vertical bore and let it sit. Smell is catnip to gun nuts.

I have used it since the 80's and never had a complaint. It is all I use inside and out , on every type action I have . I even use it on my Muzzle loaders after they are hot water washed to remove the black powder fouling .
I have never had issues on stocks , from factory finish, to tru-oil .
For the bores I spray it, then bronz brush, let sit 10 min, and continue to clean with patches.
A little bit goes a long way.

Clean a rifle with hoppes # 9 and patches and when you think you have it clean do the same process again using G96 nitro solvent. You will be amazed at what comes out. After the nitro solvent run a wet patch of G96 gun treatment down the barrel followed with a dry one.

G-96 Gun Treatment is great for protecting against corrosion, but it is a poor bore cleaner. It doesn't remove carbon build up anywhere near as well as Butch's or Shooters Choice, and it is virtually useless for removing copper fouling.

That's correct. Just because you look down the bore and everything appears shiny clean, it doesn't mean it's not still copper fouled. Lots of crud on a patch doesn't mean a lot either unless there is a blue color to it which indicates dissolved cooper.

Of course copper's not an issue with a muzzle loader.
