Default Potential issue

I was just scrolling through Facebook and a buddy commented on a thread and his profile picture is a bull elk so of course I had to look and I noticed that in the elks antlers is a savage rimfire rifle and I mean very easy to tell that what it is. I don't want to jump to conclusions but why else would you put a rim fire in the antlers??? Wondering what I should do now message and ask him about it or report it?

No I can't see blood but you can tell by the magazine, bolt throw bolt and everything g that it's clearly a rim fire. I don't want to post his name online either but still I hate any kind of poaching so I guess il message him and just ask

Could be he did for a bit of pic trickery......put a smaller rifle in the antlers, will make the antlers appear bigger. Thats giving the guy the benefit of the doubt that it was nothing malicious.

If your worried theres foul play anonymously send it to fish and wildlife with his name and let them sort it out. If theres been any laws broken your friend will learn a hard lesson if not then theres nothing to worry about no harm no foul. Gonna be hard to point fingers at who reported it as hes posted it on facebook for the whole world to see

He's supposed to be your buddy and you can't decide if you should ask him about it or just report him for the photo? Ask him.

Several years ago I was at Big Buck night locally and the winner of the largest Mulie was telling his story. " I was out hunting grouse and I turned a corner and there he was"......hmmmmmmm

He did have "special" hunting status.

Hooefully its not what it looks like and id say if it keeps you up at night or your just generally worried about it call it in. If he gives you an answer that makes sense then your probably safe not to. Also if you feel guilty calling a friend in on it tell them you want no chance at a reward as i figure that would make you feel even worse.

Potential issue is you, assuming, jeepers call the fella and see what's up.

I shoot an elk, need a picture later and through my 10/22 in my arms to make the picture more macho...or whatever...get my point?

I do that sometimes with a deer barrel on my shotgun. The first round is a slug and the rest are bird shot. See a grouse and eject the slug.

First off post a picture of the size of your leg traps...second your comparison is not the same thing at all.

What specific unlawful act was committed? You've got nothing to report to the authorities. If stuff like this was reported everyday........it would end up like the boy who called wolf. Along with wrongfully accusing someone.....

Report real stuff.

There could be several explanations for the picture. It could be as simple as the hunter was carrying a 22 for grouse as well as a big game rifle, and he used the rimfire for the picture, for a laugh. Or the rifle could be chambered in a handgun cartridge which would have a short magazine, and a short bolt throw. Or if the hunter is from another province, it could be a 22 Hornet which is often chambered in actions also used for the 22 magnum.

No doubt! Sherlock would be proud of how we all scrutinize each others photos to ensure no foul play.
No wonder we're in the thick of hunting season and very few pictures are being posted for the amount of successful hunters we have lurking here.

Good intentions by the OP. I get it.
But we sometimes need to just myob

When I was a kid, sometimes my folks would take pictures of me standing next to killed game and I would be holding a .22. Just sayin'.....

Perhaps the person that posted the picture was just trolling, if so, he hooked at least one.

If it was shot illegally, it's no doubt cut and wrapped already. Highly doubt it's still hanging.

Just putting things into a far fetched perspective is all like the OP did, assuming based on a picture! Jeez if we did that we would all be in trouble.

I used to put an airline whiskey bottle next to trout I caught, made them look real big. Just for fun of course.
