Default First bugle of the season!

Went out to one of my elk spots to check things out tonight. Watched a herd of about 18-20 in a cut-block, two 3x3's in the herd still in full velvet. They were sparring with each other and pushing the cows around. Tons of vocalizing, was fun to listen to. Eventually, the bigger of the two bulls pushed the little bull away and let out a bugle! No chuckle, but a good bugle none the less.
Gets the blood pumping, can't wait!!!

What area? My hubbie and I found a herd of prairie elk close by and we've been watching them every other night. Won't hunt them I think because they are so rare around here to begin with

Speaking of elk, when do wallows really start becoming active? First week of September?

Wife woke me up at 5:45 this morning saying elk are bugling like crazy. Got up and listened, it was magnificent!

When it got light enough, I climbed our back hill and scoped the herd out in the lower hay field. COUNTED 83 elk with at least 6 bulls. Wishing I would have had my old 35 SLR camera with zoom lens, but gave it away to my son!

Love this time of year!
