Default 308 Norma - Buttplate replacement

Hey everyone, I'd like to update the buttplate on this rifle to be a little more forgiving, the thing kicks like a mule. I've done a little searching on limbsaver but the only thing i can find available is prefit pads. Seeing as I don't know what the actual manufacture of the rifle is that makes it difficult. Any ideas?

Buy a decelerator grind to fit.

Limbsaver also makes "grind to fit". Measure the width and height of the stock at where you want to attach the recoil pad. The recoil pads come in different sizes and those sizes are listed on the package, buy the one that's slightly larger than your measurements and carefully grind to fit.

"This is my rifle, there are many like it, but this one is mine..."

Know your weapon, son.

Default might sound crazy but.........

Throw the new pad in the freezer to harden up before shaping and grinding.Harold

As an alternative, you could take the barreled action out of the stock and go to your favourite store with stock in hand. You may be pleasantly surprised to find a pad which is a match or close to it made for another brand of rifle.

If it comes down to having to acquire a grind to fit, I would suggest a Pachmayer or Decelerator over a Limbsaver as they grind easier and the end result is nicer.

If you look on Limbsaver's web site they have templates that are the exact size of their pre-fit recoil pads, right down to the screw hole locations. You can print them out, make sure you set the printer to print "Actual Size" and then you can match the butt of your stock to the printed outline of the pad. Just but or order the one that matches.

I would also suggest that the stock be measured and cut to the right length if needed. Adding a 1" pad where a 1/4" plate existed can really bugger things up, or help them??
