Default Sandhill crane ,ribeye of the sky jerky

Got out friday night , after a call that there was a ton of cranes in the area, we went out just for a pass shoot , there may have been about 700 in the field about a mile from the water, wind blowing strong from the west, it was a perfect storm..with in a hour we limited with 10, the 6 month old lab was on duty full time , only sent out if we knew the bird was totally expired, she never missed a beat, some of the best jerky i have ever made..

Great pictures! Must have been quite the workout for the pup to haul a bird of that size. I see the cranes high up, but never in my local swamps...

The jerky looks great too!

Yes that is why she was only sent out if bird was dead, for her it was a controlled hunt.

Nice work !! Sandhill crane hunt is on my bucket list for sure.,had a couple come into the decoys this year and when they are locked up 20 yards out they look as big as dinosaurs! Wish Alberta would get with the times and open a season.
