Question Southern AB warm Temperatures and Ice

What’s the consensus on the future of the ice on lakes in southern AB with temperatures showing above 0 for another whole week and plus 12 again next Thursday?

Obviously not driving on however even starting to wonder if walking on will be unsafe.?

The lakes I go to down here have anywhere from 14-20” of ice, some warmer weather is only going to melt the snow on top and give some surface slush. Now if it’s plus 10 at night as well for the next few weeks then I’d be more cautious.

Meh, with the sun at a poor angle there is not much melting going on. I would be a lot more worried if this weather was in late Feb. or March. I would not be afraid to walk on the ice. As always take advice off of the internet with a grain of salt and check conditions for yourself.

Water blowing across top of ice finds a crack goes back down into the lake creating surprise holes and week spots along those cracks / ice fishing holes. Seen quite a few sketchy spots today. But most of the ice was 24” thick after that cold snap and it not having much snow on it.

Close to 2 feet south and east. As mentioned the sun is not very high yet so not doing much damage. As always be careful and always check yourself.

Decent amount of melt today. Most places an inch deep.

Still 19” of good solid ice here at Travers, I’m not worried about driving on.

It takes months to get this thick, and it takes months to melt. Always use caution, and never rely on the internet to make your call.

Trust your gut.

That being said, I expect edges to melt a bi, but thickness to remain.

Bin driving on Rattlesnake for a month, and will continue to for the next 2! This warm weather doesn’t affect it as much as you think. Especially with the night temps... 20+” still man

Noisy ice is generally good ice. It can boom and pop when it's nearly 2 feet thick.
