Default Not sure what to think about this.

So, the BC Indian Chiefs Union has an issue with catching fish that were caught under catch & release regs.

So they're basically saying that salmon are their fish and nobody else should be allowed to fish for them.

I’m not sure what to think at all! A chiefs union?? When did the B.C FN become unionized! It seems like a way to push out sportfishing for salmon! They don’t approve of sportfishing but sustenance fishing and keeping what you catch is ok?

The worst death for a fish is netting. Take your ability to absorb oxygen and see what kind of death it would be.

So sport fishing is responsible for declining fish return runs but bank to bank netting is ok? I must be missing something.
Anytime I've been out with a guide they do everything possible to minimize the impact on the released fish

Bank to bank netting and ripping large hooks through schools of salmon seem to be quite a problem to me. The large amount of illegally sold fish by natives probably don’t help much either. Both natives and sport fishing should report their catches if only one side does it nothing improves.

"Not sure what to think about this."

This is the next step in eliminating the non "indigenous" people from accessing fish and wildlife.

UNDRIP, the NDP and the Liberals are making it a reality.

Why go after catch and release fishing? Are they using their "subsistence" practices to sell as a commercial fishing outfit? Makes way more sense to go after the commercial fishing industry who kill way more fish that sport fishing. I've heard many stories of people being sold salmon from FN people in BC.

"Indigenous rights cannot be secondary to sport in BC.” But being second to commercial is fine with them.

Maybe the government needs to ask FN for their study on the mortality rate of catch and release fishing that supports their claims.

WTF is wrong with people!!!

Thanks for listening to my rant!!!
