Default Anyone with experience with the Herbicide "Carzone"???

The joys of Spring.

Garden should be sprouted and the Raspberries should be well on their way.

Told that there are alot of Chickweed problems this year, like it isn't a problem every other year!!

A good friend mentioned applying a granular selective herbicide on the Raspberries to clear out the crab grass and weeds.

I looked online and it seems that alot of garden crops can be treated such as potatoes, carrots, onions, tomatoes, garlic, etc.

Does anyone have any experience with Carzone, and does it kill crabgrass?

I only managed to weed part of the raspberry patch when I was cleaning out the old dead canes. The crabgrass roots I pulled out when redoing the rows was easily 3 foot long. If there is some magic bullet which will keep the raspberries alive and get rid of the weeds, I would be very happy.

I spot spray with roundup before the leaves pop on the raspberries in the spring
Never heard of carzone. Be interested to know if it works

I have used it.

You are best to utilize glyphosate for the crab grass, since you are spraying a garden, not a lawn. 6 days for it to transport throughout the plant system. You will have to spot spray, but it will be more effective and cost effective

Spot spraying glyphosate is tedious but it is the most effective.

The glyphosate will be broken down by soil microbes in a month or so. Simply spot treat the grasses and apply between 15 to 23 degree days. Any hotter and the effectiveness will diminish as the leaves will begin to form a waxy protectant on their leaves to seal in moisture, thus inhibiting absorption.

Glyphosate is non selective and kills everything. Make sure you mix it at the correct ratio if you by concentrate.

The water from rain or watering, can carry it where you don't want it as it happened to me so be careful.

Interesting stuff about chickweed on the Healthline.com website. Chinese medicine mainly for skin problems; cuts, scratches, dermatitis, etc.. Also other internal health uses, apparently. Might have a hidden treasure.....Chickberry tea...lol.

It's a chemical called metribuzin, you're more likely to find it in Alberta as Sencor or Meteor.

It will work on chickweed but. I don't believe it works for grassy weeds unless it's pre emergent mixed with something like Treflan.

It does stay in the soil for a couple years so be aware of that.

I know it is registered for shelterbelts but raspberries I don't know.

Default Carzone or Grazon?

https://ufa.com/ca/flyer-offers?flyer_run_id=946457

Not sure if this is the product in question. UFA flyer has an insert for pasture herbicide. The section on the "buffer" zone is worth a read. This stuff is not to be fooled with.

All of those products Grazon Restore... are a different group of herbicides specifically y for pastures and yes are a bit management intensive. Restore is hard on small animals and Grazon is hard on aquatics. Again a big issue with these is they have lengthy residual effects of 3 to 5 years.

But they work.

None of these things should be used haphazardly.

The product you are looking for is called Casoron G-4. It's a pre emergent weed barrier. It wont work on growing vegetation but if you have a chickweed issue this works for me. I use it on my raspberries and cotoneaster hedges, usually lasts for about 3 years. It has some do's and some don'ts be careful.
