Default Preferred brand of primer for 30-06

I am in the process of gathering components to start loading for a new to me Remington 700. Only item I have left to get are primers. I do have some Winchester LR primers but am willing to try something else.

What do you like and why?

I always have luck with cci 200 in most of my standard cartridges and use fed 215 in the magnums.
I dont trust win primers anymore seen a few failures

I generally use Federal primers, and I refuse to use Winchester primers because of the issues with Winchester primers rupturing, and damaging bolt faces.

I use dominion although a light striking gun may need to hit it twice. I use federal in that case. I find cci not strong enough sometimes and winchester is lucky if they work

I use all Federals. I am sure I have some CCI and Winchester shoved in my drawer somewhere.

If you are gonna load north of 55 grains of 4350 or slower powder and will be hunting in below freezing temps, I've always switched over to a magnum primer(proper load development)

As we can see by the above answers, it is not critical.

I use nothing but CCI. 250's and CCI BR2's
I have found winchester primers specs are a tiny bit smaller. I find CCI fits snug in the pocket, and I have never had a failure in 1000s of rounds

CCI not strong enough? The are harder than Federal.

I mean the power of the primer. I was getting hangfires using blc2 in 6.5x55 and in another cartridge i forget what it was with the same powder. Federal primers fixed it up. This was a few years ago they may have changed but i never had a problem with federal or dominion except the dominion are a bit too hard

CCI’s are quite hard. Weak firing pin strikes can be exacerbated by them for sure.

Default Primer choice

We mainly use Federal primers here, either 210's or 215's. We use CC1 450's in the PALMA cases, just getting into that.

Had some old winchester primers. Blew a hole in the side of one. Always had good luck with CCI.

CCI200's and when they arent available Ill grab CCI br2 for all standard calibres. For no other reason than ive used a bunch of them, never had any problems with them, and i have a bunch of them. Use what you have, work up a load and go hunting!
