Default Advice on EZ up shelters?

https://www.ezup.com/sprint-color-punch.html

Was looking at these EZ up shelters....and looking for some feedback from hunters that have tried them out.

Is there a brand you would recommend? One to avoid? Or should they just be avoided in the first place?

Having a dilemma choosing between one of these, or a wall tent frame and just hanging a tarp over it.

We set up a pretty elaborate tarp system for our moose/elk camp, but there are no trees where we put our deer camp, and hanging a tarp off the camper just isn't cutting it.

Using anything but tipi's made out of animal hide makes you a city slicker and not a real hunter.
Happy now that there's a response?

Well, I have never used that exact model, but basically same design. As long as you can stake the legs and your tarp to the ground, it shouldn't blow away. Hopefully you are in the bush with trees all around. If not, 4-8 sand bags or some such thing tied to inside of roof frame in corners and laid on the ground helps stabilize things. Good for at least one season, mine have lasted 3 years so far. Take some bailing wire in case a hinge point breaks, 2 years till I had to repair two of those. But then the weather outside was frightful, the sideways rain was not delightful, the wind really liked to blow, with a little snow, a little snow, a little snow.

I got one of these. Paid under $200 on sale at CT. You can sleep in it or use it for whatever. Think its 10 X 12. I don't always set it up.

Out on thee prairie I can see something like this being very useful, the limiting factor off course is being able to pack it around. A truck/trailer combination certainly does suit it.
I generally hunt in boreal forest and either hike or use the boat, so space is limited.
We use simple tarps and poles cut from trees.

We have an EZ UP that we use for racing. No walls, but it’s been good as far as quality goes. Had it for quite a while and no issues. A good heavy duty one will be creeping up close to $1000. Stay away from knock offs. You get what you pay for. Heavier duty legs and mechanisms. I definitely wouldn’t want to pack one very far though.

Some of those 8 man pop up ice fishing tents might be the way to go.
They are 12 ft long X6 ft wide.

It would need to be high enough to put our fire bucket under....lol.

Check out LP Tent in Edmonton.

I've got a number of 'Event Tents' from them and the quality and service have been top notch.

I've mostly used them for trade shows... but they'd work well to set up a camp kitchen as well.

You're thinking to use it to cover your camp kitchen etc.? I don't know if those picnic-style ones would be sturdy enough, especially if you have a snow dump overnight, or wind.

I have one of the $130-ish ones; I always keep a wary eye on it to ensure it doesn't cave in the wind, and ensure the guy lines are holding well, especially if I install a wall. This is where the event ones mentioned by Gamblor would be better, although I really wouldn't trust putting your fire bucket under that - I would just weep when the first ember hole is created.

We just use an old wall tent; although we have used tarps and aluminum extension poles like these ones as well. Even these ones would work.

The more I explore this idea, the more I think a wall tent frame is what we need.

Thanks for the input guys.

We have one like that - weighs a ton and used it once. We also ran thick clear plastic from Home hardware around three sides and made it into a kitchen area. It provided the wife a high degree of visibility whilst cooking and kept her out of the wind. She swears by it.

We Had one of these up north. Did not last the season. Bears got in it , and a heavy wind and snow storm finished it off.
