Default Windows 10 is here...

So is their Privacy Policy and Service Agreement, updated and coming into force on August 1st. I guess by now users of windows 7 and 8 have received notification of the windows 10 upgrade in their taskbar.

Be ware, looks like their privacy policy is designed to rip yours apart, do some research before making the leap.

They should get some computer programmers or something working for them. They pretty much had windows perfected in 1997. Should have left it alone.

There are some out there, but mostly based on personal preferences, so some are good and others bad. I'm sure others will post what they find.

Unfortunately, anything new from microsoft is generally a schmoz.

If you want to get rid of it for now, run through the following steps.

I have Win 8 right now the its the worst thing I ever did, I don't want to learn anymore I just want things to be easy, every time I get something figured out it gets updated then you need to figure it all out again repeat repeat.
Should I go for Win 10 upgrade?
Am I being baited in to be pummeled by advertisers trying to sell me crap? I have to figure out if I want it or not it never ends.

Why can't things be simple like old TV's plug it in and it works

Rant over

There seem to be a million opinions out there. Wait a few months and see what the verdict is then, I guess. I've been happy with W7, for what I use my computer for, I don't know enough to judge whether or not it is or isn't an improvement. I gather it is supposed to be improved security, but, that has yet to be vetted. They have apparently built in lots of junk that I will never use, but, W7 has that also. I figure if I can upgrade for free, why not, but, I will wait and see what the pros and cons are, after it has been used by people who understand it better than me.

Biggest thing that everyone seem to have the problem with Win10 is the privacy settings. Can't NOT install updates - nobody is asking you anymore. Even the solitere and minesweeper cost $ now. Another thing I just read today - it shares your wi-fi password automatically to your contacts just about everywhere - outlook, skype, facebook.

My older desktop runs Win7, and I am not planning to change. It is quite old, but works just fine with win7. My sister and a couple of my friends bought newer laptops in the last year, came with win8. After some time dicking around I made it look like Win7, so all those "features" that bug people with Win8 don't bother me. Would I update to Win10 - nope. I am still to hear/read definitive answer about the subscription model that MS seems to be going to. Yes, everyone is happy they get free OS, but what happens in a year after "Free update period" ends? I'll just sit here and wait.

Default Privacy Policy and Service Agreement

That is what I noticed right away, I do not like it.

But it was an easy upgrade; it only disabled my sound card.

After opening a link I open it with internet explorer.

I guess the free upgrade is a little better than paying to beta test their product for them which is typically the case when they release a new version of Windows.

I'm sticking with Win 7, I don't trust 10 to be any less crappy than Win 8 is

Yup it's way easier.. blame the NDP and then go fishin'.

Change don't worry me a bunch, I'll learn about 10 the same way I learnt xp, 7 and 8.1, without a lot of public bitchin' and moanin'

Where is the facepalm icon... Mac users, wow.

Think your mac is bulletproof? Start thinking again. There are many brutal malware and spyware packages out there, many brutal hacks.

Windows is inherently secure - you know what makes it insecure? That big item between the keyboard and chair. Mac suffers the same insecurity.

Default Set your privacy setings

Make sure to go in and set your privacy setting to what you want. Here is a link that describes how to do it for the non geeks.

Years ago we switched to Macs at the office. Since that experience I have been anti Apple anything.

Saw something disturbing about Cortana in Win 10. Read of a couple other disturbing things. Wonder why I am disturbed when I have already come to realize that privacy is a relative fantasy these days.

The laptop I am on right now is Win 7. Desktop and travel laptop are 8.1 (don't like 8).

One can always get a Chromebook if you always are on a internet connection, or alternatively, one can install a Linux operating system such as Ubuntu.

Ive seen reports of apparent freezing/hanginging during setup... let it chug away for as long as it takes if this happens to you. Some people managed to toast their computers by interrupting the install process thinking their computers were frozen.

W8/8.1 really is a faster os, and not that different from w7 to use once you get past the metro/start menu differences. There are various free softwares for customising w8...

classicshell is a good one... there are some others.

It's convenience over privacy, simple. Make something convenient and flashy and the majority will lap it up.

Ubuntu started in on the convenient over private in version 13 with their search sending personal search info to canonical.

Do people think their apple software doesn't spy on them as well?

What it boils down to - knowing what we know already after all the leaks and whistle blowing that's been happening over the years - we should expect surveillance and it shouldn't be a theory or tin foil hat anymore.

I sigh everytime someone tells me they are on a mac.

It's amazing what a Mac user will put up with and ignore. Put them on a PC though and any little thing is the end of the world.

I find Mac users are usually the most clueless too. Unfortunately have a client with a large Mac user base that are programmers and they put even the worst PC users to shame.
