Default Death Race Winner, Congrats!

The Death Race in Grande Cache is always grueling (not that I would know, if I'd ever tried I'd be...well, dead!) but was 23 C this year. The lady who won it solo must be in amazing condition. Congrats, an amazing accomplishment!

She is truly a spectacular athlete. I had the good fortune of witnessing her last year at Lost Souls where she came in 2nd overall in the 100 km race 40 seconds behind the winner and was not surprised to see that she placed second overall again just weeks ago at Sinister 7 in the Crowsnest Pass just minutes behind the winner.

Ultra running is truly a democratic sport where it is no secret that the men have no real advantage over the women.

I completed the Death Race Solo in 2013 - far from the front of the pack and I cannot imagine the dedication and training it would take to run it 8 hours faster than I did - amazing!

Alissa also came in second by a slight margin in the 100mile Sinister 7 ultra in Crowsnest in July - a truly unbelievable athlete!

Yep you gotta respect and admire that type of dedication. I am always amazed at these athletes who are great in their sport, complete dedication.

Death race, yep, they'd be scraping my body off the ground somewhere in the first 20 K.

Would have to be in some kind of shape to accomplish that, let alone win.

Ever notice how the small scrawnies are better at this than the guys who are bigger built?
Don't know where they get the energy from.

Default It's an incredible feat!

I was support team for a soloist for this last Sinister 7. He completed last year and is a serious hardcore runner, he bailed at stage 4 (99k completed), the leg 3 run was in the heat and humidity and it's just killed the runners, then thunderstorms came in till the evening. I ran a 30k leg one year in the rain... Up and over windy ridge... It was nutZ!!!

Her 2nd place finish at Sin 7 was an amazing accomplishment! But when you account for the conditions she overcame as well.... It's almost superhuman !!!
Kudos to her and her support team.

Well over 75% of soloists dropped out this year I believe. The med tents were busy!

There's a feller from Vernon named Dag. Dag is 74 this year, and has, for the last 8 years, ran the race. He just missed the leg 3 cut off time, but he has made it solo a number of years before. When he was 68, he ran from Vernon to Grande Cache, and I had a beer with him in the pub the night before the race! Now he takes a Greyhound, though. This savage is truly an inspiration!

Edit: On another note, I'm running it next year, and need a sucker... ahem... a runner for leg 4.

look up Cameron Hanes. He's a professional bowhunter, an absolute muscled up monster, and runs ultra marathons.

He did one this year, and it was a 1 mile bush loop, and 24 hours to do as many laps as you can... Dude did 107.

My former employer would do these races. You could always tell when he was in training as he would drop a lot of bulk in preparation for it. Crazy stuff.
