Default Moose hunting 520 accommodations

After a little planning a lot of reading wildlife surveys and a bit of talk from friends I decided to draw bull moose in 520. My elderly father would like to tag onlong on the hunt and because of a medical condition he requires electricity for his cpap. He doesn't want to stay in my outfitters tent and run a battery unit on his cpap so I guess this means we will be staying in a town somewhere. Do any of you guys have any recommendations on good accomidation in peace river or any of the smaller surrounding communities in the area. I have not been up there before but I have stayed in some pretty rough places and I'm not interested in a really rough hotel. Also any tips on a local meat cutter would be great in case we have some luck.

Peace river would be your best bet up there. They got a couple decent hotels. As for meat cutter not sure there sorry.

Default Peace River

I would suggest the Best Western in Peace River. And Johnny Sausage does great work up there. They are located in Grimshaw.

Johnny's Sausage is about 20km west of PR. The IGA still does wild meat processing as well.

Things are picking up in Peace River work wise.

Another hotel is the Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre-has free breakfast.

There are a few others: Nova, Chateau Nova, Cant remember the couple others.

If you are hunting the south end - Western Budget, Peace River. Good restaurant, cheap clean and large rooms. Right on the way into Peace River up the hill, near gas station and liqour/grocery store. Meat cutters, phone around to the local butcher shops and see how much lead time you need. Not many take them in same day you call.

If it was me, I would be hunting the North end of 520 and staying in Manning. South end gets a tremendous amount of First Nations pressure, there are 20,000 in the High Prairie area north to Red Earth. The Nova in Manning is new, very nice, but about 130 a night.

No hunting in WMU 520 by Manning...wrong side of the Peace River unless you have a boat to cross the river.

Called the red earth inn they want 159/night seems a little high but it is the only place in town. I was planning on hunting the north end of the zone there really isn't many places to stay other than peace river up there for a reasonable price. The same room in peace river was 89$/night

You hunting early season or November? We drew 2 moose tags for November in 520. We are heading up in mid October to scout around for places to camp and to quad around to familiarize ourselves with the area.

Good luck, look forward to seeing some pictures

The Super 8 in peace river is a good hotel. Around $110.00 per night for a double room.

This is a really tuff zone to hunt. I had done a lot of google earth scouting and read a lot of the survey info from the government boys and had a plan to hunt the nw part of the zone with the logging slashes and swamps. got all the way up here and found right where the wildlife corridor ends on the peace river pulpmill road its gated off and there's no pickup access. Had to set up camp in the haig lake area and hunt from there. The bush on his side is crazy thick we haven't even seen a moose only whitetail coyotes and 1000000 chickens. There's more wolf and bear sign out here then moose sign. I've started calling at some of the local swamps and am hoping the moose action picks up for the last few days.

Wow, crazy. We just got back from 520 and had literally the best Moose hunt we've ever had. The Bulls were incredibly active all day. 3 of us filled 3 tags without hardly trying. Are you out hiking a bunch or sticking to the roads?

We have tried pushing bush for 2 days calling 2 days drive the roads for 2 days. Haven't even seen a poop or a hoof mark. We're planning on moving camp location tomorrow to try a different spot and hoping for the best. If you have any general area/technique recommendations I'll take any help at this point.
