Default Would you Harvest a White One?

Just watched a video of a rare completly white bull Moose. They said it was not an albino, but it was pure white anyways. Some sort of genetic fur mutation. I saw a piebald cow moose this spring by Mundare, but have never seen a completly white deer or moose in the field.
I'm not sure I would pull the trigger if I had the chance. I don't think there is a reg against shooting one, but it seems like it might be bad luck to do so.

Why would it seem like that?

I'd pass. Who needs all the crap associated with killing a "sacred", "special", "rare", or "beautiful" animal. Please note sarcasm.

The "sacred" one in particular gets me. We are judging people and actions legally now on the basis of how it impacts a pretend religion.

Personally I wouldn't nothing against anyone that would I just wouldn't do it. About 5 years ago I was making the drive back to Nova Scotia and just outside of Timmins I believe it was there was an albino moose on the side of the road we pulled over and watched her for a bit. They are pretty spectacular looking.

It would be discriminatory NOT TO shoot it,I for one will not be party to affirming a moose's white privelage and will enthusiastically shoot it same as I would any black moose...fair is fair.

Likely not. Just a personal thing I guess. It wouldn't bother me if someone did.

I wouldn't discriminate against a white moose, so yes, I would shoot it.

Regardless on how one feels about the issue, the negative publicity if it got out there is not worth the internet death threats!

Hunting is hard enough to defend when you are dealing with an emotional, irrational, anti gun, pro animal rights dominated social media,,, the sport does not need the "black eye"!!!

They usually don't make it to a decent size because they stick out like a sore thumb right from birth. He must be in a protected area. If there was a white bull moose running around out in my beloved hillbilly country he wouldn't last long.

Grew up hearing dad and the uncles talk about shooting an all white animal and the bad luck superstitions that go with it. Dead within a year or bankrupt kinda thing. I would rather it walk being so rare vs not shooting due to any bad luck ideas tied to it.

That you tube vid of the all white moose is cool. Would love to get some pics of any white 4 legged animal, albino or pie bald.

Would shoot. Just a moose. I don't plaster my kills all over the Internet so no worries of taking heat from morons that don't know me. I don't subscribe to bad luck, bad juju or any of the other superstition. The mount would sure be a plus!

I grew up in Timmins. There was a whole albino moose family about an hour out of the city at one point. Seen lots of pictures but I personally never saw them. I'd like to think that I would take a shot if I came across one but who knows maybe I'd be in awe and not. I guess there would only be one way to really find out ...

Maybe you don't post it to social media, but in this day and age how can you be sure you can keep something like a shooting a white moose secret?

Particularly if its image has already been posted on the internet?

Could be a friend of a friend of a friend of the taxidermist / local farmer / your neighbour etc. who would find out and post it to Facebook...

I get that, I should've been more clear. I wouldn't particularly care if people knew either way.

Keeping it a secret makes it feel like you're doing something wrong, which in the case of a legal harvest, is not

Default If I had a tag for the animal.

I would shoot a white moose or a white elk or a white deer or a white bear or a white Antelope or a white anything as long as its legal to shoot.
Supposed to be unlucky but I don't need luck anyway.
There are a lot of animals in Africa that are bred to throw odd colours like black or white like springbok, impala and blesbok. The rarer the colour the more they cost to hunt.

Shooting is easy, thinking that someone else like your kids or friends would like to see one alive in the wild is much more difficult.
